Weighted with £529 5s., valuation for improvements. This section is situated on the Makuri-Aohanga Road, which is a summer dray-road. The access is from Rakaunui, distant about two miles by metalled road; also from Makuri Township, which is about nine miles distant, of which seven miles is metalled, the remainder is summer dray-road. The section comprises hilly land of medium quality, intersected with steep gullies and faces. About 164 acres has been felled and grassed, 16 acres surface-sown, the remainder is light bush and scrub; in the grassed portion secondary growth appears in places. The soil is of a clayey nature, resting on papa formation. The forest is light, comprising birch, rata, rimu, &c., with the usual undergrowth of rangiora, tutu, supplejack, ferns, &c. The section is well watered by a creek. The elevation varies from 800 ft. to 1,300 ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise 164 acres felled and 180 acres grassed, 110 chains fencing, ½ acre garden, orchard, &c.; four-roomed house, 26 ft. by 21 ft. by 10 ft. (sawn timber, iron roof, one brick and one iron chimney); cowshed, 22 ft. by 10 ft. by 6 ft.; yards and swing bridge.

This section is situated in the Pohonui-a-tane (Hunterville No. 1) Block. The access is from Hunterville, which is about twenty-nine miles distant, via the Ongo - Turakina Valley Road and Mangamahoe Road, which are formed for dray traffic to within about three miles of the section; this dray-road is, however, frequently blocked by slips: the rest is formed bridle-track, bad in winter and often blocked by slips. The section comprises all hilly and broken land, with a small area of easy ground in the western corner. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa formation. The forest is mostly light, comprising chiefly manuka, koromiko, rangiora, horopiti, with some rimu, kahikatea, tawa, &c., with an undergrowth of the usual kind. The section is watered by a small stream. The elevation ranges from 2,000 ft. to 2,200 ft. above sea-level.

NOTE.—A right of way will be reserved for the public at all times over the temporary road now formed through the section, and the lessee shall not in any way block this road or prevent any one from using it.

This section is situated on Stokes Valley Road, between Silverstream Railway-station and Taita Township. The access is from Silverstream, which is about three miles distant by good metalled road. The section comprises from 25 to 30 acres of easy-sloping ground, the remainder being hilly. The greater portion of the flat is in rough grass, partly overgrown with manuka and patches of gorse. The hills and some of the easy ground are all covered with thick manuka and fern. The soil varies from fair on the flats to very poor on the hills; a portion of the flat is swamp, but could be drained; the formation is clay and shingle. The section is well watered by a constantly running stream. The elevation ranges from 140 ft. to 240 ft. above sea-level.
