TIMARU HARBOUR BOARD.

Timaru Harbour Board Office,
Timaru, 3rd February, 1905.

SIR,—
Proposal to borrow a further sum of £50,000, under the provisions of “The Harbours Act, 1878,” and “The Timaru Harbour Board Loan Act, 1904,” to be applied in and about the construction, completion, and carrying-out of works for the improvement of the Port of Timaru, including the completion of the construction of the Eastern Extension Mole, and for wharfage accommodation, and generally for the purposes stated in “The Timaru Harbour Board Loan Act, 1904”; and any portion of the interest on the loan which the Harbour Fund shall be insufficient to pay, after providing for prior charges, to be secured by a rate on all rateable property in the harbour district, or by allocation of contributions from the local authorities in the said district, as mentioned in section 12 of the said Act last above referred to: the said loan of £50,000 to be raised in such sums as the Board in office from time to time may determine, but no moneys are to be borrowed under the authority of the said Loan Act which shall produce to the lender a higher rate of interest than five pounds per centum per annum, and the moneys to be borrowed under section 3 as aforesaid are to be devoted exclusively to the purposes authorised by the said Loan Act.

In pursuance of the provisions of section 11 of “The Timaru Harbour Board Loan Act, 1904,” I have the honour to give you notice that the result of the poll of the ratepayers of the Timaru Harbour District, taken in the several boroughs, counties, and parts of counties situated within the harbour district on the 30th day of January, 1905, was as follows: For the proposal, 1,610 votes; against the proposal, 50 votes. The number of votes given for the proposal exceeding the number given against it by more than one-fourth of the latter, I declared the resolution in favour of the proposal to be carried; and I have now the honour to give you notice that the said resolution was carried as aforesaid.

Notice respecting Proposed Borough of Johnsonville, County of Hutt.

Wellington, 9th February, 1905.

PURSUANT to section 175 of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” His Excellency the Governor directs it to be notified that a petition has been presented to him praying for the constitution of the area described in the Schedule hereto as a borough under the said Act, to be named the Borough of Johnsonville.

All persons affected are hereby called upon to lodge any written objections to, or petitions against, the constitution of the said borough which they may desire to lodge within one month from the first publication of this notice. Such objections or petitions to be addressed to the Colonial Secretary, Wellington.


SCHEDULE.

DESCRIPTION OF BOUNDARIES OF THE PROPOSED BOROUGH OF JOHNSONVILLE.

ALL that area in the Wellington Land District bounded towards the north generally by Sections Nos. 114 and 22, Block VI., Belmont Survey District, the crossing of a road, and by Section No. 23, Block VII., Belmont Survey District, from the westernmost corner of the said Section No. 114 to the southernmost corner of Section No. 6 of the said Block VII.; thence towards the east generally by Section No. 4 of the said Block VII., by Sections Nos. 3, 2, 1, 13, 12, 11, and 10, Block XII., Belmont Survey District, and by the production of the south-western boundary-line of the last-mentioned section produced in a south-easterly direction to high-water mark of Port Nicholson; thence by high-water mark of Port Nicholson to the easternmost corner of the Borough of Onslow, as the said borough is described in the New Zealand Gazette No. 12, of 13th March, 1890; thence towards the south-west generally by the said Borough of Onslow to the south-eastern corner of Section No. 91 (Native reserve), Block XI., Belmont Survey District; thence towards the north-west by a right line to the southernmost corner of Section No. 14, Block XI., Belmont Survey District; thence by the said Section No. 14 and by Sections Nos. 15, 17, 18, 20, 21, and 23, Block VI., Belmont Survey District, to the place of commencement.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of Shops in the Borough of Temuka.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing signed by a majority of the owners of all the shops in the Borough of Temuka (not being one of the districts mentioned in section 3 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904”) has been forwarded to me, desiring that all shops in such borough shall be closed at 6 o’clock in the evening on four working-days of the week—viz., Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays—and at 9 o’clock in the evening of Saturdays: And whereas the Temuka Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops within the borough:

Now, therefore, I, James McGowan, acting for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 21 of the said Act, do hereby direct that from and after the 1st day of March, 1905, all the shops in the Borough of Temuka shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.
