Formation of Battalion of Defence Rifle Cadet Volunteers.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve, under clause 6, (1), “The Defence Act, 1886,” of the undermentioned corps in the Canterbury Military District being formed into a battalion of Defence Rifle Cadet Volunteers, under the designation and numbered as set forth below, with headquarters at Christchurch, as from the 13th December, 1904:—
No. 1 Battalion, Canterbury Defence Rifle Cadet Volunteers.
A Company—Christ’s College Rifle Cadet Volunteers.
B ” No. 1 Company, Christchurch Boys’ High School Rifle Cadet Volunteers.
D ” Kaiapoi Rifle Cadet Volunteers.

Appointment of Member of New Zealand Military Pensions Board cancelled.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to cancel, under “The Military Pensions Act, 1902,” and as from 1st February, 1905, the appointment of
Surgeon-Major THOMAS CAHILL
as a member of the New Zealand Military Pensions Board, which appointment (New Zealand Gazette No. 60, of 14th July, 1904) had effect only during the absence from the colony on sick-leave of Surgeon-Lieutenant Colonel William Edward Collins, who resumes duty as a member of the said Board from 1st February, 1905.

THE following special order, made by the Bull’s Town Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

SPECIAL ORDER.
Notice is hereby given that at a special meeting of the above Board held on Friday, 6th January, 1905, the following resolution was adopted: viz., That notice be given that, in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” the Bull’s Town Board resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing interest and other charges on a loan of £600 for two successive years’ expenditure authorised to be raised by the Bull’s Town Board under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” for the purpose of paying a further part of the Board’s share of the cost of completing the construction of a bridge over the Rangitikei River at Bull’s, the said Bull’s Town Board hereby makes and levies a special rate of 2d. in the pound on the rateable valuation of all rateable property of the Bull’s Town District; and such rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable in one sum on the 1st day of May in each year during the currency of such loan, being a period of forty-one years, or until the loan is fully paid off; and the interest to be paid is at the rate of 4 per cent.
And it is further notified that a special meeting of the Board will be held on Monday, the 6th day of February, 1905, to confirm or otherwise the foregoing special order.

THE following special order, made by the Eyreton Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL ORDER MAKING BY-LAW.
THAT, in pursuance of the powers vested in the Eyreton Road Board in that behalf by “The Road Boards Act, 1882,” and its amendments, and “The Public Works Act, 1904,” any person or persons cutting grass-seed growing on the roads within the boundaries of the Eyreton Road Board District without the consent in writing of the said Board shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding £10 (ten pounds sterling), to be recovered as a common debt.
This by-law shall apply and be in force the whole of each year until repealed by the Eyreton Road Board.
I hereby certify that the foregoing by-law was duly made in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882,” and its amendments, and “The Public Works Act, 1904.”

ARAI ROAD BOARD.
SPECIAL ORDER under Subsection 4 of Section 14 of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and Subsection A of Section 8 of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Amendment Act, 1903.”
In pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in them on that behalf, and by a petition of three-fourths of the ratepayers in the Arai-Mangapoi ki Special-rating District, the Arai Road Board do hereby resolve as follows: That for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £700 to be raised by the Arai Road Board under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and amendment, 1903, for metalling cuttings on Arai Road from Reay Bridge, Te Arai River, upwards to Tokonui, the said Arai Road Board do hereby make and levy a special rate of ½d. in the pound upon the rateable valuation of all rateable properties within the Arai-Mangapoi ki Special-rating District; and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable in one sum on the 1st day of January in each and every year during a period equal to the currency of such loan, being a period of twenty-six years, or until the loan is fully paid off.
