THE following table gives the area of wheat, oats, and barley for threshing, and the estimated yields; also the amount of flour and wheat on hand as at 31st October, 1904.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Acres. | Estimated Yield. Bushels. | Total Bushels. | Acres. | Estimated Yield. Bushels. | Total Bushels. | Acres. | Estimated Yield. Bushels. | Total Bushels. |

In a Supplement to the New Zealand Gazette of 23rd June, 1904, the wheat on hand Bushels.
available for all purposes as at 29th February, 1904, was stated at .. .. .. 8,211,386
Wheat and flour imported from 1st March, 1904, to 31st October, 1904 .. .. .. 14,970
8,226,356
This has been disposed of as follows:—
For seed, 258,896 acres at 2 bushels per acre .. .. .. Bushels.
517,792
Consumption for population of 890,000, at 6 bushels per head per annum,
for eight months (1st March to 31st October, 1904) .. .. 3,560,000
Wheat and flour exported, 1st March to 31st October, 1904 .. .. 653,622
4,731,414
Leaving on hand, 31st October, 1904 .. .. .. .. .. 3,494,942

Taking the figures 2,912,583 bushels as the correct quantity on hand at 31st October, 1904, and deducting therefrom 1,800,000 bushels, the estimated quantity required for consumption, on a population basis of 900,000, from 1st November, 1904, to 28th February, 1905, the time when the new crop will be available, it will be seen that the wheat on hand in excess of requirements on 1st March, 1905 (not including this season’s crop), will be, approximately, 1,112,583 bushels.
The exports and imports for the four months are not taken into account. The exports for November, December, and January only amounted to 15,463 bushels.
