Altitude, from 200 ft. to 600 ft. above sea-level. Comprises broken and undulating land; well watered; soil of fair quality; good loam on slopes and valleys; sandy clay on ridges, resting on sandstone formation. The forest is heavy, comprising taraire, rata, rimu, kahikatea, kohe, and towai, with undergrowth of kiekie, toetoe, and supplejack. Sections 35 and 44, all heavy mixed forest; Section 37, about 95 acres mixed forest; Section 39, about 45 acres mixed forest; Section 43, about 245 acres mixed forest; balance of these sections manuka and fern. These lands are situated at Runaruna, in the Rotokakahi Valley, and are distant from seven to eight miles from Broadwood Post-office by unformed road.

Altitude, from 100 ft. to 600 ft. above sea-level. Undulating and broken land, covered with dense forest, comprising tawa, taraire, rata, rimu, and kahikatea, with an undergrowth of kiekie, toetoe, and supplejack; well watered; soil a good loam and clay, resting on clay formation. Access to Section 7 is from Broadwood or Whangape, about eight miles in each case. Access to Sections 12 and 13 from Whangape, from eight to nine miles distant. These sections front the Whangape-Broadwood Road, not yet formed.

Altitude, from 200 ft. to 400 ft. above sea-level. Comprises 5 acres bush, balance open fern and manuka country; undulating to broken land; soil of fair quality, sandy clay on ridges, loam in gullies; mixed bush comprises rata, rimu, and kahikatea; well watered. Situated seven miles from Broadwood by unformed road.

Rural Lands in Taranaki Land District open for Sale or Selection.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the fourteenth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and six; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Situated on Waitotara Valley Road, distant about thirty-four miles from Waverley Railway-station. Access by partly metalled dray-road. Comprises rough grazing-country, broken in places by deep gorges. Soil is of fair quality, resting on papa formation; well watered.

Weighted with £750, valuation for improvements, consisting of four-roomed house, £150; 240 acres in grass, £344; 90 acres felling, £82; grassing, £54; and 160 chains of fencing, £120.

Situated on Ohura Road. Access from Stratford, thirty-two miles distant—fourteen miles formed and metalled dray-road, remainder formed dray-road. Generally low, hilly grazing-country; a few acres level on Section No. 16. Nearly all the bush on Section No. 17 is felled, and 120 acres on Section No. 16; the balance is moderately heavy, comprising tawa, rimu, rata, kahikatea, and thick undergrowth. Soil good, on papa formation; well watered. Elevation, 500 ft. to 1,248 ft. above sea-level.
