Rural Land in Southland Land District open for Selection on Lease in Perpetuity.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on and after the twentieth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and four; and also that the land mentioned in the said Schedule may be selected on lease in perpetuity only, in accordance with the provisions of section one hundred and twenty-one of the said Act, as it contains, or is supposed to contain, metals, minerals, or valuable stone; and I do hereby also fix the price at which the said land shall be leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said land shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Undulating land; rather poor soil; heavy timber, with thick undergrowth and moss mounds. Altitude, 15 ft. above sea-level. Situated about 5 chains from Waikawa Township.

Rural Lands in Nelson Land District open for Sale or Selection.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by section one hundred and thirty-six of “The Land Act, 1892,” and section two of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby declare and provide as follows, that is to say:—

  1. The rural lands enumerated in the Schedules hereto are hereby set apart for disposal by way of sale or selection on and after the seventh day of September, one thousand nine hundred and four, at the respective prices specified in the said Schedules.
  2. The said lands may be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity; provided that in the case of land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, they shall be selected on lease in perpetuity only, and shall not be purchased for cash.
  3. For the purposes of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” the lands enumerated in the First Schedule hereto shall be deemed to be “heavy-bush land,” the lands in the Second Schedule shall be deemed to be “light-bush land,” and the lands in the Third Schedule shall be deemed to be “scrub land.”
  4. No general rate shall be levied or collected by any local authority from the said lands for the period of four years in the case of heavy-bush land, three years in the case of light-bush land, and two years in the case of scrub land, from the date from which in each case respectively such land is disposed of, and no local authority shall have power to levy or collect any such rate from such land during such period.
  5. After the first half-year’s rent has been paid by the selector the further instalments of rent payable by him for a period of four years in the case of heavy-bush land, three years in the case of light-bush land, and two years in the case of scrub land shall not be demanded; provided that if at any time during the first five years of his occupancy the selector disposes of his interest in the land the rent so conceded shall be paid by him in full, and thereupon the Land Board may remit such instalments of rent payable by the incoming tenant, not exceeding in the aggregate the amount of rent previously conceded to the selector, as the Board shall think fit.

Very rough, broken mountain-slopes, covered with bush, chiefly birch. Access by proposed branch roads up the Anatoki and Waingaro Rivers, Stony Creek, and other side gullies.

Waimea County.—Tapamutu and Wakapuaka District.

Rough mountain slopes, covered with bush, chiefly birch. Access by proposed branch roads leading from the main road from Nelson to Blenheim.

Waimea County.—Rintoul District.

Nearly all rough, broken, hilly country, with a few small flats along the Rivers Lee and Wairoa; covered with bush, chiefly birch, with a little matai and rimu; formation, decomposed slate, very liable to slips. The block is accessible by track up the River Lee, by the Chrome Track, and by unformed road up the Wairoa River, the nearest point being about six miles and a half from the Brightwater Railway-station.

All that block of land, containing 16,300 acres, more or less, situated in the Takaka and Mount Arthur Survey Districts respectively, bounded towards the north generally by the surveyed lands in Blocks XV. and XIX., Takaka District; towards the east by the summit of the main range; towards the south by the Flora Creek Track; and towards the west by Crown land to Baron’s Creek; thence by that creek and the River Takaka to the limits of the surveyed lands.
Cash price, 7s. 6d. per acre; occupation with right of purchase, rent, 4·5d. per acre per annum; lease in perpetuity, rent, 3·6d. per acre per annum.

Also all that parcel of land, situated in Totaranui Survey District, containing approximately 3,518 acres, and being the unsurveyed portions of Blocks I., II., III., IV., VI., and VII., Totaranui Survey District aforesaid.
