Warrant authorising the Kiwitea County Council to construct a Bridge over the Rangitikei River at Mangarere, and apportioning the Cost of the Bridge.

PLUNKET, Governor.

WHEREAS by section one hundred and thirteen of “The Public Works Act, 1894” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), it is, inter alia, enacted that in any case where the local authority of any district desires to construct a bridge in any position that will, in its opinion, be of advantage and benefit to the whole or any considerable portion of the inhabitants of an adjacent district, as well as to the inhabitants of its own district, and where it is, in the opinion of such local authority, reasonable that the local authority of such adjacent district should contribute to the cost of constructing or establishing the said bridge, the provisions in the said section mentioned shall have effect: And whereas the Kiwitea County Council has taken the steps required by the said section, and has made application to the Governor to authorise the construction of the bridge mentioned in the Schedule hereto (hereinafter referred to as “the said bridge”), and to apportion the cost of constructing the said bridge between the said Council and the Rangitikei County Council, and no objection has been made by the Rangitikei County Council to such application: And whereas the Governor is of opinion that the work should be done:

And whereas a warrant, dated the fifteenth day of October, one thousand nine hundred and two, was issued authorising the Kiwitea County Council to erect the said bridge on the terms therein mentioned, but it is found that the said warrant does not fully carry out the intention of the local authorities affected thereby, and it is expedient to issue a fresh warrant in lieu thereof:

Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me by the said Act, and of every other power and authority enabling me in this behalf, do hereby revoke the hereinbefore-recited warrant of the fifteenth day of October, one thousand nine hundred and two, and do hereby authorise the Kiwitea County Council to construct the said bridge; and I do declare that the cost of constructing the said bridge—less such amount by way of contribution as may be provided by Government—shall be borne by the said County Councils in the following proportions, namely, a sum of eight hundred pounds shall be paid by the Rangitikei County Council, and the balance of cost of the said bridge—less the Government contribution aforesaid — shall be borne by the Kiwitea County Council; and such proportions shall be paid by the said local authorities accordingly.
