Special Order made by the Council of the County of Stratford.

THE following special order, made by the Stratford County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

STRATFORD COUNTY COUNCIL.
Special Order making Special Rate.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and “The Counties Act, 1886,” the Stratford County Council hereby resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £150, authorised to be raised by the Stratford County Council, under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” for the purpose of defraying the cost of bridging the Mangaehu Stream at the Murcott Road, the Stratford County Council hereby makes and levies a special rate of 1¾d. in the pound upon the rateable valuation of all rateable property of the Mangaehu-Murcott Road Bridge Special-rating District, comprising the northern half of Section 10, and Sections 13, 14, 16, 17, and 18, of Block XVI., Ngatimaru Survey District; and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable yearly on the 1st day of February in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of twenty-six years, or until the loan is fully paid off: the rate of interest to be 5 per cent. per annum.
The above special order was instituted at a special meeting of the Council held on the 23rd day of March, 1904, and confirmed at a meeting of the Council held on the 20th day of April, 1904.

Special Order making Special Rate.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and “The Counties Act, 1886,” the Stratford County Council hereby resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £200, authorised to be raised by the Stratford County Council, under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” for the purpose of defraying the cost of completing the construction of the Mangaehu Road from the Mangaotuku Road to the western boundary of Section 1, Block II., Omona Survey District, as originally contemplated under the proposal for the £500 loan raised for that purpose, the Stratford County Council hereby makes and levies a special rate of ⅞d. in the pound upon the rateable valuation of all rateable property of the Mangaehu Road No. 4 Special-rating District No. 2, comprising Sections 1, 2, and part (western half) of Section 3, Block II., Omona Survey District, and the north-western 1,500 acres of Sub. 1 of the Matemateaonga Block; and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable yearly on the 1st day of February in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of twenty-six years, or until the loan is fully paid off: the rate of interest to be 4½ per cent. per annum.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman to the Waikiwi River Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

WAIKIWI RIVER BOARD.
PUBLIC notice is hereby given that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Waikiwi River District, held in Invercargill and Waikiwi on the 22nd day of April, 1904, upon the proposal of the said Board to borrow the sum of £3,000 by way of special loan under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” for the purpose of effecting a certain public work—namely, the widening, deepening, and straightening, removing obstructions from and altering the channel of the Waikiwi River—and which said proposal is more fully set forth in the public notice thereof in the Southland News newspaper of the 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th days of March, 1904, the number of votes received for and against the said proposal was as follows, that is to say,—
For the proposal, 34; against the proposal, 35.
I, Joseph Stock, the Chairman of the said Board, hereby declare that the said proposal was not carried.

Arbor Day.

Wellington, 12th May, 1904.
WEDNESDAY, the 13th day of July next, will be observed as a public holiday in the Government offices throughout New Zealand for the celebration of Arbor Day.
In order that the movement may be made as successful as possible, the Government hopes that the Mayors of the various municipalities and Chairmen of local bodies will place the matter prominently before the people of the colony, and do all they can to encourage the planting of public reserves and other available lands, both public and private, with trees suited to the locality.

Approval of Fees fixed by By-Law of Local Body for Licensing of Vehicles.

IT is hereby notified, in accordance with section 311 of “The Counties Act, 1886,” that so much of the by-law made by the Clifton County Council on the 4th day of March, 1904, as appoints the several sums to be paid to the Clifton County funds for the licensing of vehicles has this day been approved by His Excellency the Governor.

IT is hereby notified, in accordance with section 311 of “The Counties Act, 1886,” that so much of the By-laws Nos. II. and IV., made by the Southland County Council and sealed on the 21st day of April, 1904, as appoint the several sums to be paid to the Southland County funds for the licensing of vehicles plying for hire for the carriage of passengers or goods within the County of Southland have this day been approved by His Excellency the Governor.
