Special Order made by the Council of the County of Stratford.

THE following special order, made by the Stratford County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of "The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1901."

STRATFORD COUNTY COUNCIL.

SPECIAL ORDER instituted at a special meeting held on 20th January, 1904, and confirmed at a meeting held on 17th February, 1904:—

That it be a special order, in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by "The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1901," and "The Counties Act, 1886," and the Acts amending the same, the Stratford County Council hereby resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £50, being the further advance of 10 per cent. on the original loan of £500 authorised to be raised by the Stratford County Council, under the provisions of "The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1901," for completing the forming, grading, and bridging of the Mangaehu Road from the Mangaotuku Road to a point half-way along the road frontage of Section 16, Block III, Omona Survey District, the said Stratford County Council hereby makes and levies a special rate of 1/2d. in the pound upon the rateable valuation of all rateable property in the Mangaehu Road No. 3 Special-rating District, comprising part Section 3 (eastern half), Sections 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, part Section 21 (southern half), and part Section 23 (southern half) of Block II, Omona Survey District, and Sections 4, 5, 6, 12, 13, 15, 16 of Block III, Omona Survey District; and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable yearly on the 1st day of February in each and every year during a period equal to the currency of such loan, being a period of twenty-six years, or until the loan is fully paid off: the rate of interest to be 5 per cent. per annum.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Council of the County of Horowhenua, is published in accordance with the provisions of "The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1901."

HOROWHENUA COUNTY COUNCIL.

Result of Loan Proposals.

IT is hereby notified that the following is the result of a poll taken on the 30th day of March, 1904, for a proposal to borrow from the Colonial Treasurer the sum of £1,300 for the purpose of metalling the unmetalled portions of the Levin-Foxton Road:—

Number of voters on roll, 308; number of valid votes recorded, 217; votes recorded for the proposal, 101; votes recorded against the proposal, 116; votes informal, 4.

As the number of valid votes recorded for the proposal do not equal three-fifths of the valid votes recorded, I hereby declare the proposal to be not carried.

Notice to Mariners No. 31 of 1904.

PRELIMINARY NOTICE.—EXHIBITION OF LIGHT ON JACK'S POINT, NEAR TIMARU, SOUTH ISLAND OF NEW ZEALAND.

NOTICE is hereby given that a fourth-order fixed white light, visible between the bearings of north through west to S. 12° W., and elevated about 70 ft. above the level of the sea, is to be exhibited on Jack's Point, about 3 miles south of Timaru, in June, 1904. The light should be seen in clear weather from a distance of about 10 miles.

ADEN.—On 27th Feb., 1904, the f. white lt. (12° 45' N., 45° 3' E.) on Ras Marshag was to be altered to an occ. white lt., vis. 3 sec., ecl. 2 sec., R. 22 miles. In other respects the lt. remains as before. March.

EASTERN ARCHIPELAGO, ETC.

Malacca Strait, &c.

ONE FATHOM BANK LT.—This lt. (2° 53' N., 101° 0' E.) is to be altered from rev. to a group-fl. white lt., showing groups of 4 fls. every 15 sec.: Fl. 1/2 sec., ecl. 2 sec.; fl. 1/2 sec., ecl. 2 sec.; fl. 1/2 sec., ecl. 2 sec.; fl. 1/2 sec., ecl. 7 1/2 sec. March.

BANKA ISL.—PULO BUAR.—The cable ship "Scotia" is reported to have struck on a coral patch, carrying about 3 1/2 fms., in approx. 2° 14' S., 106° 35' E., about 8 1/2 miles N. 70° E. from Pulo Buar. March.

PACIFIC OCEAN.

New Guinea.

SCHILPAD ISLE.—A reef about 1/2 mile long N.N.Wly. and S.S.Ely., and 1/2 cable wide, is reported to exist in approx. 1° 22' S., 130° 30' E., about 6 miles n.-erd. of the Schilpad Isls. March.

FRIEDRICH WILHELM HARB.—A f. red lt. is exh. in 5° 12' S., 145° 48' E., on the s.-ern. pt. of Beliao Isl., Friedrich Wilhelm Harb., with Obser. Pillar S. 51° E. 3 1/2 cables, and Bode Pt. S. 43° W. The above lt., and also that shown from the beacon 4 1/2 cables s.-erd. from the Obser. Pillar, is stated to be exh. every night, and not shown only when the mail steamer is expected. March.

Convening Meeting of Maniapoto-Tuwharetoa District Maori Land Council under the provisions of "The Maori Lands Administration Act, 1900."

A MEETING of the above-mentioned Council will be held at Hakiaha's Hall, Taumarunui, on Tuesday, the 26th day of April, 1904, at 10 o'clock in the forenoon, for the purpose of dealing with objections that have been lodged against the plan of Taumarunui Township; and also with applications by Maori beneficial owners for allotments for their use and occupation within the said township; and also for dealing with any other business that may be legally brought before it.
