the anchorage, also a shoal patch, named Cardale Patch,
distant 2 cables from the western extreme of Wai-Weer
Reef.

It is intended at an early date to mark the southern ex-
treme of the shoal with a black buoy, and the southern
extreme of Cardale Patch with a chequered (black and red)
buoy.

Importation of Swine from New Zealand into certain States of
the Australian Commonwealth prohibited.—Notice No. 826.

Wellington, 2nd November, 1903.

THE following States have prohibited the importation of
swine from New Zealand for the period stated oppo-
ite the name of each respectively:—

Queensland: Six months from 2nd September, 1903.

New South Wales: One year from 27th August, 1903.

Victoria: Till revoked.

Tasmania: One year from 8th May, 1903.

Western Australia: Till revoked.

In the case of South Australia the prohibition has ex-
pired, and notice has been received that it is not proposed to
renew it.

NOTE.—The importation of swine from the Australian
States (except Tasmania) to New Zealand is also prohibited:
see Gazette notices as follows:—

Queensland and Western Australia, in Gazette of 4th
October, 1900.

New South Wales, in Gazette of 2nd July, 1903.

Victoria, in Gazette of 27th August, 1903.

South Australia, in Gazette of 29th October, 1903.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the
undermentioned local governing bodies have by special
order declared the plants enumerated opposite each to be
noxious weeds within the meaning of “The Noxious Weeds
Act, 1900,” in the district under the jurisdiction of each
respectively:—

Waimarino County Council .. Ragwort or ragweed,
ox-eye daisy, and
burdock.
Waihemo County Council .. Ragwort or ragweed.

Chilman Extension, Taranaki Land District, of a Width
of 66 ft.

me by section 2 of “The Towns Main Streets Act,
1902,” I, Thomas Young Duncan, Minister of Lands, do
hereby authorise the laying-off of the main streets in the
Town of Chilman Extension, Taranaki Land District, of a
width of 66 ft., instead of 99 ft. as prescribed by section 17
of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Bonus for Treatment of Auriferous Black Sand.


Mines Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 14th November, 1901.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of £2,000 will be
paid to any person who, before the 1st January, 1904,
shall invent such appliances as will successfully save gold
from black sands in New Zealand.

The bonus will be paid on compliance with the following
conditions:—

  1. The invention shall, in its main features, differ from
    all machinery and appliances at present in use for the
    saving of gold, whether coarse or fine.

  2. It shall be readily transportable from place to place,
    and shall be capable of utilising local water for all its re-
    quirements.

  3. The invention must be capable of treating not less than
    30 cubic yards an hour of black sand or any coarser material
    up to a diameter of 4 in.; and it must be capable of treating
    such material profitably where there is not more than a
    value, in gold, of 3d. per cubic yard; not less than 80 per
    cent. of the gold contained in the material to be recovered
    by the machine.

  4. No bonus to be paid until the invention has been con-
    tinuously worked for not less than six months, and it shall,
    during that period, have treated not less than 100,000 cubic
    yards of material, working three shifts a day.

  5. The bonus will be paid on the certificate of an officer
    that not less than twenty persons other than the applicant
    for the bonus are successfully working the invention.

  6. Any person who receives the bonus shall not be allowed
    to take out patent rights in New Zealand for his invention.

NO eligible tender having been received, fresh tenders
are now invited, receivable at the General Post
Office, Wellington, until noon of Saturday, 14th November
proximo, for the performance of a steam service between
Wellington, Waitapu (Takaka), and Collingwood, for the
period and in accordance with the terms and conditions to
be seen at the Chief Post-offices at Wellington and Nelson,
and the Post-offices at Takaka and Collingwood.

The lowest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted.

NOTICE is hereby given that, pursuant to an appli-
cation in that behalf made to me by the Wellington
Grocers’ Industrial Union of Employers, registered No. 333,
situated at Wellington, the registration of that industrial
union will be cancelled at the expiration of six weeks from
the date hereof unless within the six weeks specified pro-
ceedings be commenced by a member or other person in-
terested in or having some claim on the funds of the industrial
union to set aside such cancellation, and the same is set
aside accordingly.
