County Council, is published in accordance with the

MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

£300 Loan.—Penny’s Line.

SPECIAL ORDER made by this Council at a special meeting
held on the 9th September, 1903, and confirmed at a special
meeting held on the 14th October, 1903:—

“That, in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in
it in that behalf by ‘The Counties Act, 1886,’ the Manawatu County Council hereby resolves as follows: That, for
the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a
loan of £300 sterling, authorised to be raised by the Manawatu County Council under the provisions of ‘The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,’ for metalling the unmetalled
portion of Penny’s Line, the said Manawatu County Council
hereby makes and levies a special rate of 1/5d. in the pound
upon the rateable valuation of all the rateable property of
the Waitohi District, comprising all the rateable property
lying within the Waitohi Riding; and that such special rate
shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of
such loan, and be payable yearly in one sum at the county
offices, Sanson, on the 1st day of July in each and every year
during the currency of such loan, being a period of forty-one years, or until the loan is fully paid off.”

In witness whereof the common seal of the Chairman,
Councillors, and Inhabitants of the County of Manawatu was
affixed, in the presence of—

Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

COOK COUNTY COUNCIL.

SPECIAL ORDER made by the Cook County Council on the
17th July, 1903, and confirmed at a subsequent meeting held
on the 28th August, 1903:—

“In pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in them
in that behalf by ‘The Counties Act, 1886,’ the Cook
County Council do hereby resolve as follows: That, for
the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on
a supplementary loan of £250, authorised to be raised by the
Cook County Council under the provisions of ‘The Local
Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,’ for completing the Mangatu Road,
the said Cook County Council do hereby make and levy a
special rate of 1/4d. in the pound upon the rateable valuation
of all rateable property of the Mangatu Loan District, as
defined in special order of this Council of 27th November,
1901; and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable yearly on the 1st day of June in each and every year
during a period equal to the currency of such loan, being a
period of forty-one years, or until the loan is fully paid
off.”

The common seal of the Chairman, Councillors, and
Inhabitants of the County of Cook was hereto affixed in the
presence of—

made in accordance with law, and that all the requirements
of “The Counties Act, 1886,” and “The Local Bodies’

Rangiora Road Board, is published in accordance with
the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

MANDEVILLE AND RANGIORA ROAD BOARD.

SPECIAL ORDER passed by the Mandeville and Rangiora
Road Board at the ordinary meeting of the Board held
on the 11th September, 1903: Mr. G. Dalziel proposed the
notice of motion, of which he had given notice at the
previous meeting, of a special order authorising the Board,
under section 75 of “The Road Boards Act, 1882,” to borrow
£500, under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans
Act, 1901,” section 14, sub-section (1), to be used for the
purpose of paying the Board’s overdraft of £500 incurred
in paying the Board’s share (£541 6s. 6d.) of the cost of
erecting a bridge over the Waimakariri River, known as
Empire or White’s Bridge. Seconded by Mr. James Stevenson, and carried unanimously.

I hereby certify that the above special order has been
duly passed by the Board, and that a copy of the same has
appeared in the Lyttelton Times and Christchurch Press of
the 17th, 24th, and 31st August, and 7th September last;
and that the same take effect from the date of the confirmation of the said special order—viz., 9th October, 1903.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the
Hutt River Board, is published in accordance with
the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

HUTT RIVER DISTRICT LOAN.

Notice is hereby given that a poll of the ratepayers of the
Hutt River District was taken on the 23rd day of September, 1903, at the River Board’s Offices, Lower Hutt Borough
Council Chambers, upon a proposal of the Hutt River Board
to borrow, on the security of a special rate of 9/18d. in the
pound to be made and levied within the Hutt River District
on Class I. of the lands within the said district (being the
lands liable to great actual damage), and a special rate of
5/18d. in the pound to be made and levied within the said district on Class II. of the said lands (being the lands liable to
less actual damage), and a special rate of 2/6d. in the pound
to be made and levied within the said district on Class III.
of the said lands (being the lands indirectly liable to damage), an additional sum of £15,000 for the construction of
further protective works in the said district, and the acquisition of lands in connection with the carrying-out of the said
work, and the payment of compensation to any persons in
connection with the existing river protective works, or the
said further works, or the acquisition of lands for such
works, and for paying engineering or other expenses and
contingencies in connection with the said loan; and that
the said loan be borrowed for a period of twenty-six years,
and that the said special rate be set apart for providing
interest at the rate of £4 10s. per centum per annum and
other charges thereon and in connection with the said loan,
and be made a continuing rate for a period of twenty-six
years, and that the cost of raising the loan and the interest
for the first year be paid out of the loan.

The total number of valid votes recorded in favour of the
proposal was 274, and the total number of valid votes re-
