THE following notice, received from the Council of the
Borough of Waimate, is published in accordance with
the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

BOROUGH OF WAIMATE.

Notice of result of poll to raise a special loan under “The
Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” on the following pro-
posal:—

  1. The undertaking proposed to be engaged in, and for
    which such loan is required, is the providing of a water-
    supply for the Borough of Waimate by all such means as
    may be found necessary for such purpose, including the
    construction of works and acquiring lands and rights to
    water, and the doing of all other acts, matters, and things
    incidental to the establishment of such water-supply as
    aforesaid.
  2. The sum proposed to be borrowed for such purpose is
    £11,500.
  3. To provide security for repayment of such loan, it is
    proposed that a special annually recurring rate of 2⁷⁄₀d. in
    the pound during the currency of the loan be made and
    levied upon the rateable valuation of all rateable property
    within the Borough of Waimate, to be appropriated and
    pledged as such security as aforesaid, and that if necessary
    the proposed waterworks, and all plant and property thereof,
    be also charged with repayment of the loan; and the repay-
    ment of the loan is to be provided for by payment of £3 10s.
    per centum per annum on the amount thereof for forty one
    years by way of interest on and also extinguishing the loan
    at the end of that period.
  4. It is proposed to pay out of the loan the cost of raising
    the loan and the interest for the first year.
    Public notice is hereby given that at the poll of ratepayers
    of the Borough of Waimate, taken on the 9th day of Octo-
    ber, 1903, upon the above proposal, the votes recorded were
    as follows: For the proposal, 176; against the proposal, 126;
    informal, 4. And I hereby declare the said proposal to be
    carried.

mation.

The commander of H.M.S. “Torch” reports the existence
of an uncharted sunken shoal in lat. 17° 0′ 30″ south, long.
149° 49′ east; depth sounded, 7 fathoms, possibly less.
South-west Islet, Coringa Group, bears from the shoal
north 67° east mag.; distance, 8·5 miles.

INDIA—EAST COAST.—COCANADA—GODAVARI DISTRICT.
Wreck-buoy.

Masters of vessels, pilots, and others are hereby informed
that caution should be exercised in coming to an anchorage
in Cocanada roadstead, the Port Officer of that place having
notified that five cargo boats are sunk there. The correct
position of the wreck-buoy marking the site is—Vakalapudi
Lighthouse bearing N. 70° W., Cocanada old lighthouse
bearing S. 40° W.; and the angle taken by sextant between
the above two lighthouses, 70°.

Department of Ports and Harbours, Melbourne, Vic-
toria, is published for general information.

VICTORIA.

Port of Port Phillip.—Point Gellibrand Light-vessel.

Referring to General Notice to Mariners, Victoria, dated
the 24th September, 1901, it is hereby notified that the light-
vessel moored off Point Gellibrand has drifted out of
position, and pending its replacement a temporary gas-buoy,
showing a similar light, will be moored in position in lieu
thereof whenever weather permits. Meanwhile the position
will be indicated by the steamship “Albert,” moored there
at, showing a red light at night.

By-law for New Zealand Government Railways.—Regulating
the Weight of Grain to be carried in any Sack.

PURSUANT to and in exercise of the powers conferred
by section 11 (5) (i) of “The Government Railways
Act, 1900,” I, Joseph George Ward, the Minister for Rail-
ways, do hereby make the following by-law regulating the
weight of grain to be carried in any sack, and imposing a
penal rate of charges for excess in respect of such weight:—

BY-LAW.

  1. On and after the 1st day of February, 1905, the maxi-
    mum weight of any sack containing wheat, barley, or oats
    to be carried by railway shall be 200 lb.
    Any sack of wheat, barley, or oats containing a greater
    weight than 200 lb. shall be charged for at four times the
    ordinary rate of freight.

one thousand nine hundred and three.

Notice of Intention to take Land for Kahuranga Point Light-
house.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the
provisions of “The Public Works Act, 1894,” to
execute a certain public work, to wit, the construction of
a lighthouse, and other works in connection therewith, at or
near Kahuranga Point, and for the purposes of such public
work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required
to be taken. And notice is hereby further given that the
plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in
the Post-office at Collingwood, and is there open for in-
spection; and that all persons affected by the execution of
the said public work or by the taking of the said land
shall, if they have any well-grounded objections to the
execution of the said public work or to the taking of such
land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing,
within forty days from the first publication of this notice,
to the Minister for Public Works, Wellington.

SCHEDULE.

The parcel of land mentioned hereunder:—
