dupois; barley, 12 bags of 4 bushels to 1 ton avoirdupois; oats, 14 bags of 4 bushels to 1 ton avoirdupois; peas, 10 bags of 4 bushels to 1 ton avoirdupois; potatoes, 12 bags of 4 bushels to 1 ton avoirdupois; chaff, 25 bags machine pressed and dressed to 1 ton weight avoirdupois; chaff, 35 bags hand pressed and dressed to 1 ton weight avoirdupois; coal, 12 bags to 1 ton weight avoirdupois; firewood, three-quarters of a cord to 1 ton weight avoirdupois.

By-law No. 8 of the said by-laws made by the said Pelorus Road Board is hereby amended by the addition at the end thereof of the following words: “and such person for the time being in charge of any such vehicle, engine, or machine shall, at the verbal request of the officer or person so authorised or employed as aforesaid, give such information as to the load being transported in or by such vehicle, engine, or machine, and as to the quantity, weight, size, or measurement of the same, as such officer or person shall require.”

These by-laws shall be read in conjunction with and shall be and be deemed to form part of the said by-laws of the said Pelorus Road Board, and the said by-laws shall, from the date of the coming into operation of these by-laws, be read and construed and take effect as if By-law No. 1 hereof was mentioned or referred to in the said by-laws in lieu or instead of the said By-law No. 4 hereby repealed.
These by-laws shall come into force within the said Pelorus Road District upon the date of their publication in the New Zealand Gazette.
I hereby certify that the above by-laws have been duly made and adopted by special order in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882,” at a meeting of the Pelorus Road Board held on the 7th day of July, 1903, and the common seal of the Board has been affixed thereto in my presence.

Special Order made by the Council of the Borough of Balclutha.

THE following special order, made by the Balclutha Borough Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

BALCLUTHA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” the Balclutha Borough Council hereby resolves, That, for the purpose of providing the interest, at 3½ per cent. per annum, and other charges on a loan of £500, authorised to be raised by the Balclutha Borough Council, under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and the amendments thereof, for payment of the said Council’s share of the cost of renewing the Balclutha Traffic-bridge, the said Borough Council makes and levies a special rate of ⅔d. in the pound upon the rateable valuation of all rateable properties in the Borough of Balclutha; and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable half-yearly on the 1st day of June and December in each year during the currency of such loan, being a period of forty-one years, or until the loan is fully paid off.
I hereby certify that the above is a true copy of a special order made by the Balclutha Borough Council on the 10th March, 1903, and confirmed on the 9th April, 1903.
The common seal of the Mayor, Councillors, and Burgesses of the Borough of Balclutha was by the authority of the Borough Council affixed this 21st day of July, 1903, in our presence.

WESTPORT BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Special Order making Special Rate.
THAT, in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” and “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” the Westport Borough Council hereby resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £400, authorised to be raised by the Westport Borough Council, under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” for the completion of the waterworks and the extension of the reticulation of water-mains within the Borough of Westport, the said Westport Borough Council hereby makes and levies a special rate of ⅓d. in the pound upon the rateable valuation of all rateable property of the Borough of Westport—comprising all that area in the Provincial District of Nelson bounded on the northward by the high-water mark of the South Pacific Ocean; on the eastward partly by a straight line, bearing 155° 53′, drawn from the aforesaid high-water mark in the direction of Domett Street to the north-east corner of the Municipal Reserve, thence by Domett Street, 155° 53′, six hundred and twenty-five links, one hundred and twenty-five links, three thousand and seventy-five links, one hundred and twenty-five links, and seven thousand and eight hundred and fifteen links; on the southward partly by Daniell Street, now known as Stafford Street, 245° 53′, three thousand eight hundred links, one hundred and twenty-five links, and eleven hundred links, partly by a continuation of Palmerston Street, 155° 53′, five hundred links, and partly by a line between Sections 7A and 5 to the banks of the River Buller, bearing 245° 53′; and on the westward by the banks of the River Buller to the northern boundary as given above—and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and shall be payable half-yearly on the 3rd day of January and the 3rd day of July in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of forty-one years, or until the loan is fully paid off.
I hereby certify that the foregoing special order has been duly made and confirmed by the Westport Borough Council.
