Land temporarily reserved in the Canterbury Land District.
RANFURLY, Governor.
WHEREAS by the two-hundred-and-thirty-fifth section
of "The Land Act, 1892," it is enacted that the
Governor may from time to time, either by general or particular
description, and whether the same has been surveyed
or not, reserve from sale temporarily, notwithstanding that
the same may be then held under pastoral license, any
Crown lands which in his opinion are required for any of
the purposes in the said section mentioned:
Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and
pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by the
said Act, do hereby temporarily reserve from sale the land
in the Canterbury Land District described in the Schedule
hereunder written, for the purpose in the said Schedule
specified at the end of the description of the land so intended
to be temporarily reserved.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, containing
by admeasurement 2 roods, more or less, being Section
No. 3642 (in red), Maytown Settlement, Block XV., Waimate
Survey District. Commencing at a point on the west side
of a public road, the said point being distant 667·4 links
along said road in a north-westerly direction from the
easternmost angle of Section No. 9, Maytown Settlement,
and bounded thence towards the south-east, south-west, and
north-west by said Section No. 9, 200, 250, and 200 links
respectively; and thence towards the north-east by the said
public road, 250 links, to the point of commencement: be
all the aforesaid linkages more or less: as the same is
delineated on the plan marked S.G. 19249, deposited in the
Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington,
in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured
red. For a gravel reserve.

this twenty-third day of July, one thousand nine
hundred and three.

Rural Lands in the Southland Land District open for Selection on Lease in Perpetuity.
RANFURLY, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth
section of "The Land Act, 1892," I, Uchter John Mark,
Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand,
having received the report of the Surveyor-General in
this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby
declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule here-
to shall be open for selection on and after the twenty-second
day of September, one thousand nine hundred and three;
and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may
be selected on lease in perpetuity only, in accordance with the
provisions of section one hundred and twenty-one of the
said Act, as they contain, or are supposed to contain, metals,
minerals, or valuable stone; and I do hereby also fix the
prices at which the said lands shall be leased, as mentioned
in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands
shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of "The
Land Act, 1892," and "The Mining Act, 1898," and amendments.

All forest-clad; well watered; good soil. Sections 1, 2,
and 3, light mixed bush, undulating; Section 4, half birch,
level; Sections 5 and 9, heavy mixed bush, broken, hilly,
and rough; Sections 6, 7, and 8, light mixed bush, broken
and hilly. This block is situated about fourteen miles from
Orepuki by road, of which eleven miles and a half are gravelled, one mile and a half of the balance is formed, but is
in a very bad condition; the remainder requires felling and
forming. The distance to the nearest railway-station, Waio-
haka, is about eleven miles. The water in the principal
branches of the streams is reserved for mining purposes.
