  1. In no case will the use of instantaneous-closing taps,
    valves, or cocks be permitted. Galvanised-iron piping of an
    approved quality only will be allowed for external services,
    and of the requisite sizes suitable to the requirements of the
    tenements, as shall be determined by the engineer or other
    officer appointed by the Board.

  2. No direct connection shall be made with any steam-
    boiler or water-engine except by special consent of the Board,
    nor under any circumstances shall any connection be made
    whereby any water may be conveyed from any pipe to any
    water-closet.

Rates in Arrear.

  1. At the expiration of fourteen days from the date of
    any water rate being due, and after delivery of notice on the
    premises to which such water is laid on (excepting tempo-
    rary supplies, which may be cut off after twenty-four hours'
    notice), it shall be competent for the officers of the Board
    to cut off any such supply in such manner as may be
    deemed advisable.

General.

  1. No consumer shall attach or connect, or permit or
    allow to be attached to or connected with the waterworks
    any pipe or other apparatus, nor alter, permit, or allow any
    alteration to be made in any existing pipe or apparatus so
    attached or connected, unless the work be done by a licensed
    plumber, and unless notice in writing in that behalf shall
    have been given by the licensed plumber employed to the
    Waterworks Engineer or other officer appointed by the
    Board, and the consent of such officer or engineer shall have
    been first obtained.

  2. The Waterworks Engineer or other officer appointed
    by the Board shall keep a list of such plumbers as the Board
    shall license as aforesaid, to be called the List of Licensed
    Waterworks Plumbers, and it shall be lawful for the Board
    at its discretion to remove from such list the name of any
    plumber who in the opinion of such Engineer or officer shall
    have shown incapacity or shall have been guilty of negligence
    or any misconduct, or shall have refused or neglected to
    supply such Engineer or officer with any information re-
    quired by him in reference to any work done or being done by
    such licensed plumber in connection with the waterworks,
    and to cancel his license as such plumber.

  3. No person shall use on his property any water coming
    from the Board's mains unless the same shall have passed
    through the meter measuring his supply.

Wrong or False Information.

  1. No person shall give to any officer of the Board false
    information upon any matter pertaining to water-supply.

Penalties.

  1. Any person who shall violate or fail to do or observe, or
    who shall in any way contravene, any of the above rules or
    any of the matters or things laid down in these by-laws, or
    who shall do any act, matter, or thing which he is prohibited
    from doing or is not allowed to do under the authority of
    these by-laws, shall for each and every such offence forfeit
    and pay a sum on conviction of £5, or of such lesser sum
    as the Court inflicting the same shall in its discretion
    think fit.

SCHEDULE.

To the Remuera Road Board.
I HEREBY request that you will, at your earliest convenience,
make the necessary connection from your water-main in
Street to my property abutting thereon, so that I
and my property there may be supplied with water (
supply), inch service-pipe and meter; and I agree that
if you consent to such request I will, while such connec-
tion remains, pay the price for such water and connection
and the rent of such meter, and observe, perform, and con-
form to the conditions and regulations specified in your
Waterworks By-laws, dated the day of
, 1903.

Passed by the Remuera Road Board at a special meeting
of the said Board held on the 20th day of March, 1903; and
the common seal of the Inhabitants of the Remuera Road
District was affixed in the presence of—

THE following special order, made by the Manawatu
County Council, is published in accordance with the
provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

THE following is a copy of a special order passed by the
Manawatu County Council at a special meeting held on the
18th March, 1903, and confirmed at a special meeting held
on the 22nd April, 1903:—

“That, in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in
it in that behalf by ‘The Counties Act, 1886,’ and by
virtue of a warrant issued under the hand of His Excellency
the Governor, in terms of section 113 of ‘The Public Works
Act, 1894,’ and section 8 of ‘The Public Works Acts Amend-
ment Act, 1900,’ dated the 27th January, 1902, the Mana-
watu County Council hereby resolves as follows: That for
the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on
a loan of £450, authorised to be raised by the Manawatu
County Council under the provisions of ‘The Local Bodies’
Loans Act, 1901,’ for the purpose of providing Manawatu
County Council’s share of the cost of construction of that
portion of the main road between Foxton and Palmerston
North, in the Manawatu Road District (now Kairanga
County), leading from the Orona Bridge eastward towards
Longburn, a distance of about 2 miles 33⅔ chains, and
known as the Ngawhakarau Road — such loan to be for
a period of forty-one years, at the rate of 3½ per cent. per
annum — the said Manawatu County Council hereby makes
and levies a special rate of ⅞d. in the pound upon the rate-
able valuation of all rateable property of the Ngawhakarau
Special-rating District, comprising Sections 67 to 86 in-
clusive, 117, 118, 119, of subdivision Section 384, Blocks
XV., XVI., Te Kawan Survey District; Sections 319, 320,
337, 338, 339, 336, 334, Blocks X., XV., XVI., Te Kawan
Survey District; Sections 335, 336, Blocks III., IV., Mount
Robinson Survey District; Himatangi Section 1, Blocks II.,
III., Mount Robinson, and Block XIV., Te Kawan Survey
Districts; Sections 2 to 7, inclusive, of the Mangawhata Es-
tate, Blocks XI., XV., XVI., Te Kawan Survey District; and
that portion of the Rangitikei-Manawatu B and B1 in the
Kawakawa Riding, Blocks XV., XVI., Te Kawan Survey
District; and that such special rate shall be an annual-
recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be
payable yearly in one sum at the County Offices, Sanson, on
the 1st day of July in each and every year during the cur-
rency of such loan, being a period of forty-one years, or
until the loan is fully paid off.”

The common seal of the Chairman, Councillors, and In-
habitants of the County of Manawatu was affixed in the
presence of—
