Rural Lands in the Auckland Land District open for Sale or Selection.
RANFURLY, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section
of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand,
having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that
the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the twenty-seventh
day of May, one thousand nine hundred and three; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the
option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity,
or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on
lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as
mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under
and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Block V.:—Section 1—somewhat broken; patches of mixed forest in gullies, balance fern and tea-tree; soil fair: Sections 3 and 4—broken; covered with mixed forest, consisting of rata, rimu, tawa, pukatea, kohe; good soil: Sections 5 and 6—broken land; half open land in each section, half mixed forest, same as that on Sections 3 and 4: Sections 7 to 15—undulating to broken; mostly covered with fern and tea-tree, with a few small patches of mixed forest in gullies on Sections 7 to 11; soil on top of spurs rather poor, but improves near the banks of the streams; some good flats on the western end of Section 13: Sections 16 to 20, 22 to 25, 29, and 30—mostly level and undulating; intersected with small patches of rich swamp; soil is generally of a light description; will produce good turnips and oats with working; Sections 24, 25, and 30 front chain reserve along the Piako River. Block IX.:—Sections 1, 2, and 3—poor clay hills, covered with fern and manuka scrub: Sections 4, 5, 6, and 7—level and undulating; intersected with patches of flax and raupo swamp; general growth is fern and tea-tree, but near the Piako River there are patches of cabbage-trees.

Section 1—undulating open fern and tea-tree land, with two small patches of mixed forest; soil fair. Section 2—level and undulating; some rich flats covered with tall manuka and cabbage-trees, balance fern and scrub; soil fair.
The foregoing sections are situated from ten to twenty miles from Morrinsville Railway-station, the first seven miles by a fairly good dray-road. Small steamer can be got up the Piako River to within about two miles of Section 22, Block V.; also, access can be gained from Ohinewai Railway-station, twenty miles distant, of which some fourteen miles are fit for wheeled traffic. The block is well watered throughout.
