Rural Lands in the Auckland Land District open for Sale or Selection.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the twenty-seventh day of May, one thousand nine hundred and three; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Altitude, from 1,300 ft. to 2,000 ft. above sea-level. Section 1, Block V., heavy mixed forest, chiefly rimu and matai, watered by Mokaihaha Stream, broken and undulating, situated twelve miles from Mamaku Railway-station; Sections 2 to 9 of Block V., undulating country, covered with heavy mixed forest; Section 10, 150 acres mixed forest, remainder open, fern and tussock, undulating; Sections 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 of Block VI., and Section 1 of Block VII., flat and undulating country, covered with mixed forest; Section 2 of Block VII., broken and undulating, nearly all covered with mixed forest, a little open land at eastern end of section; Section 2 of Block IX., 130 acres heavy mixed forest, remainder open, fern and tussock, undulating land; Section 3, level and undulating, about 240 acres heavy mixed forest, balance open; Section 4, level and undulating, about 30 acres open, rest heavy mixed forest; Section 5, undulating and broken, 65 acres mixed forest, balance fern and tussock; Section 1, Block X., level and undulating, covered with heavy mixed forest; Section 3, undulating and broken land, 60 acres open, fern and tussock, rest mixed forest; Sections 4 and 6, broken, soil of poor quality, about 360 acres mixed forest on each section, balance covered with fern, tussock, manoa, and manuka; Sections 5, 7, and 8, broken and undulating, soil of poor quality, 110 acres mixed forest on Section 5, 150 acres on Section 7, and 100 acres on Section 8, rest open land, fern, tussock, manoa, and manuka. The soil on the above sections is light, but of good quality, except where otherwise stated, being largely composed of a vegetable loam on a papa-and-pumice formation. Sections 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, and 10 of Block V., Sections 1, 2, 5, 6, and 7 of Block VI., Sections 2, 3, and 5 of Block IX., and Sections 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 of Block X. are watered by running streams, the remaining sections depend entirely upon rainfall for water-supply. The block is situated from five to fourteen miles from Mamaku Railway-station, the road from station to northern boundary of block being formed, and from fourteen to twenty-three miles from Rotorua by road now in course of construction. The forest consists principally of tawa, rimu, and matai. The sections are weighted with valuation for timber as follows: Block V.—Section 1 £1,562, Section 2 £762, Section 3 £816, Section 4 £827, Section 5 £831, Section 6 £468, Section 7 £468, Section 8 £362, Section 9 £458, Section 10 £187; Block VI.—Section 1 £787, Section 2 £550, Section 4 £500, Section 5 £641, Section 6 £620, Section 7 £825, Section 8 £562, Section 9 £588, Section 10 £468; Block VII.—Section 1 £662, Section 2 £993; Block IX.—Section 2 £162, Section 3 £300, Section 4 £625, Section 5 £81; Block X.—Section 1 £592, Section 2 £750, Section 3 £450, Section 4 £450, Section 5 £137, Section 6 £450, Section 7 £187, Section 8 £125.
