viz., All that portion of the One-Tree Hill Road District
bounded starting at the northern corner of Lot 1 of Sec-
tion 1 of the Village of Mount St. John; towards the north-
east and east by the Great South Road to the south-eastern
corner of part of Allotment 7 of Section 11, at the intersec-
tion of Green Lane with the Great South Road; thence
towards the south-east and south by Green Lane to the
Manukau Road; and thence towards the west by the Manu-
kau Road to the starting-point.

  1. Every person who causes or permits to run from any
    manufactory, or building, or place any offensive liquor or
    matter into or upon any road or street, public or private,
    or any footway, or channel, or ditch, shall be guilty of an
    offence.

  2. Every occupier of any land or premises who causes or
    permits to run from such land or premises into or upon any
    road or street, public or private, or into or upon any footway
    or channel, or upon any adjacent land, or into any drain or
    ditch intended only for storm-water, any offensive liquid or
    matter, shall be guilty of an offence.

  3. No pit or hole for the reception of drainage or refuse
    from any premises within the district shall be made or con-
    structed or allowed to remain within 50 ft. from any
    dwellinghouse, or within 30 ft. from any adjacent allotment
    or road.

  4. No person shall burn any shavings, straw, or other
    materials or matter on any road or street without the con-
    sent in writing of the Board.

  5. No person shall throw or discharge any stone or other
    missile, or use any catapult or other propelling instrument,
    within the district to the damage or danger of any person or
    property.

  6. No person shall allow any droppings of the eaves of
    any house or verandah to fall upon any road or street.

  7. Every bicycle, and tricycle, and motor-car, and every
    other vehicle in whatsoever way propelled, used in or upon
    any road or street after sunset and before sunrise shall carry
    a light in a conspicuous place in the front, and shall also
    carry an alarm-bell, and the rider thereof shall ring such bell
    when meeting or passing any vehicle or any person on horse-
    back, and when approaching any person who may be cross-
    ing any road or street, whether on foot or horseback; and
    the rider of every such bicycle, or tricycle, or motor-car, or
    other vehicle shall observe the law as to meeting and passing
    vehicles as is prescribed by law for persons driving vehicles.

  8. Every vehicle drawn by one or more horses used in or
    upon any road or street after sunset or before sunrise shall
    carry a light on each side thereof.

  9. If any dog shall, on any highway, or road, or street
    within the district, rush at, attack, or startle any person, or
    any horse, cattle, or other animal, whereby the life or limbs
    of any person shall be endangered, or any property be injured
    or endangered, the owner of such dog, or the person in charge
    of such dog, or the person such dog shall be following, shall
    be guilty of an offence.

  10. No person shall throw, leave, or deposit upon any road,
    or street, or vacant allotment within the district any dead
    animal, or any bottles, earthenware, china, or rubbish of any
    description.

  11. No person shall keep, or allow or suffer or permit to
    be kept, swine or pigs within the district on any holding of
    less than 2 acres in area, or shall in any case so keep them as
    to be a nuisance or injurious to health, nor shall any pig-sty
    be permitted or allowed to remain at a less distance than
    100 ft. from any house or building used as a dwelling, or
    from any road or boundary of any occupied neighbouring pro-
    perty. The floor of any pig-sty shall be of concrete or other
    impervious material, to the satisfaction of the person
    appointed by the local authority, and shall be so constructed
    that there shall be no soakage of soil with pigs’ food, or
    urine, or drainage from the sty.

  12. No stable shall be erected nearer than 15 ft. from any
    house or building used as a dwelling, or nearer than 15 ft.
    from any road or boundary of neighbouring property. The
    floor of any stable shall be constructed of concrete or other
    impervious material. No accumulation of manure shall be
    permitted to remain on any property so as to cause a
    nuisance.

  13. No person shall be allowed to keep fowls on any allot-
    ment of land of a less area than a quarter of an acre. All
    fowl-houses shall have concrete or tar-asphalt floors, and
    shall have the walls limewashed at least once in every three
    months. No fowl-house shall be permitted to be built or
    remain nearer than 20 ft. from any dwelling, &c., or nearer
    than 10 ft. from any boundary of any adjoining land.

  14. No privy or closet shall be permitted to be erected or
    to remain at less distance than 15 ft. from any house or
    building used as a dwelling, or from any road, street, or foot-
    path, or from the boundary-fence of any used or occupied
    land or allotment.

  15. Every owner or occupier of any dwellinghouse or
    other tenement within the district shall provide and keep
    convenient to the privy or closet a box containing dry earth,
    or sawdust, or lime, to be used in such privy or closet as a
    deororiser.

  16. Every privy or closet must be provided with a water-
    tight iron pan of the pattern approved by the Board for the
    reception of nightsoil. The pan shall be provided by the
    Board for and at the cost of the owner or occupier of the
    premises where it is to be used, and such pan shall be paid
    for on demand. The owner or occupier of the premises shall
    provide and use or cause to be used a sufficient quantity of
    dry earth, sawdust, or other deodorising substance, so that
    no nuisance be created or injury to health arise.

  17. All privies, closets, and house-drains within the district
    shall be under the superintendence, government, and control
    of the Board.

  18. The floor under the seat of every privy or closet shall
    be raised at least 3 in. above the ground, and shall be con-
    structed of concrete properly faced with cement, and the
    privy or closet shall be constructed so that the pan shall fit
    in below the seat in such manner as to prevent any filth
    reaching the floor.

  19. The Board shall make such provision as it shall think
    fit for the regular removal from any and every dwelling-
    house or other tenement used as a dwelling within the One-
    Tree Hill Road District, and at the expense of the owner or
    occupier thereof, of all or any rubbish, nightsoil, dung, slops,
    filth, or refuse of any kind; and no person shall remove
    nightsoil without a license from the Board.

The Inspector of Nuisances or Surveyor for the time being
appointed by the Board, or any other person or persons who
may be appointed by the Board for the purposes of these
by-laws, shall have power to enter into or upon any buildings
or land within the One-Tree Hill Road District for the pur-
pose of effecting any such removal as in the last preceding
section specified, or for examining the condition of any
privy, drain, closet-pan, or earth-box, or for cleansing, con-
structing, or altering or repairing the same.

If any person shall violate, or fail to do or observe, any
rules, matters, or things laid down by these by-laws, or shall
make, do, suffer, permit, or allow to be done that which he
is not entitled or allowed to do under the authority of these
by-laws, he shall be deemed guilty of an offence, and for each
such offence shall on conviction forfeit and pay a sum of £5,
or such smaller penalty as the Court in its discretion shall
inflict.

of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

KIWITEA COUNTY COUNCIL.

Special Order.

THAT, in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in them
in that behalf by “The Counties Act, 1886,” the Kiwitea
County Council do hereby resolve as follows:—

That for the purpose of providing the interest and other
charges on a loan of £555, authorised to be raised by the
Kiwitea County Council, under the provisions of “The Local
Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” for regrading Waituna Hill and
raising and making approaches to bridge on Sinclair’s Line,
the said Kiwitea County Council do hereby make and levy
a special rate of ¼d. in the pound upon the rateable valua-
tion of all rateable property of the Waituna Hill Special-
rating District, comprising Sections 5, 6, 7, 8, Block XI.,
Village of Welford; 1 to 16 inclusive, Part 20, 21 to 27 in-
clusive, Block XV., Village of West Waitapu; 1 to 9 in-
clusive, Block XI., Rewa Village Settlement; 5, 7, 9, 10, 13,
17, 21, 22, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, A and B, Block XI.,
Township of Rewa; 13 to 20 inclusive, Block IX., Apiti
Survey District; 1, 21, Block XIII., Apiti Survey District;
3, 4, 5, 29, 32, 33 ,34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 40, 43, 44, 47, 48, 49, 51,
