Notice as to Day for closing under “The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894.”


NOTICE is hereby given that, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by “The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894,” and of all other powers and authorities me hereto enabling, and in terms of notice in writing duly received by me from the Chairman of the Conference of Delegates of all the local authorities comprised in the district constituted for the purposes of that Act by the Boroughs of Petone and Lower Hutt (being both boroughs any part of any one of which is situate within a mile of any part of another), I, William Hall-Jones, acting for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, hereby appoint Wednesday to be the day on which all shops in the said district shall be closed as provided by that Act.

Requisition as to taking Land compulsorily under “The Land for Settlements Consolidation Act, 1900,” and its Amendment.


NOTICE is hereby given that it is intended, on behalf of His Majesty, to take compulsorily, under the provisions of “The Land for Settlements Consolidation Act, 1900,” and its amendment, the land the acreage, description, and classification of which, as also the names and addresses of the owners of such land, are specified in the Schedule hereto; and every owner of the land, and also every other person having any estate or interest therein, are hereby required to serve their respective claims for compensation on the Minister of Lands, in the form and manner and within the period provided by the said Acts.


SCHEDULE.

FLAXBOURNE ESTATE.

  1. Acreage and Description.—All that parcel of land, situate in the Land District of Marlborough, containing by ad-

measurement 56,155 acres, more or less, situated in the Survey Districts of Clifford Bay and Cape Campbell, and known as the Flaxbourne Estate. Bounded towards the north-east by the Main South Road from the eastern boundary-line of Section 13 of Block V. to Lake Grassmere; thence by Lake Grassmere to Cook Strait; thence by Cook Strait and Sections 100 and 284: towards the south-east by the Pacific Ocean to the Ure River: towards the south-west and west by the Ure River, and by Sections 36 and 38, Blue Mountain Survey District, and by a tributary of the Flaxbourne River to the Flaxbourne River; thence by the Flaxbourne River to another tributary of the Flaxbourne River; thence by that tributary and Small Grazing-run No. 1, Cape Campbell Survey District, to and by Tetley Brook to the north-west corner of Section 14 of Block V.; thence by the northern boundary-line of Section 14 of Block V. and by Section 13 of Block V. to the point of commencement: excluding from the lands within the said described area all reserves, Crown lands, and public roads: as the said boundaries are more particularly delineated on the plan marked S.G. 18886, deposited in the Head Office of the Lands and Survey Department, in Wellington, in the Land District of Wellington, and thereon edged with red.

  1. The Minister’s Classification of the Land.—First-class, 5,000 acres; second-class, 23,000 acres; third-class, 28,155 acres.

  2. The land intended to be taken is the whole of the owners’ estate.

  3. The acreage and the Minister’s classification of the whole estate is:—Acreage, 56,155, more or less: Minister’s classification—First-class, 5,000 acres; second-class, 23,000 acres; third-class, 28,155 acres.

  4. Names and addresses of owners.—
    (a.) The owners in fee-simple are George Hugh Charles Clifford, Baronet, of Stoneyhurst, Canterbury; Walter Lovelace Clifford, of Flaxbourne, Marlborough; Charles William Clifford, of the Red House, Market Drayton, Staffordshire, England; Francis Charles Clifford, of Wellington Club, Grosvenor Place, London.
    (b.) The owner of lesser estates is Sicele Agnes Clifford, of Red House, Market Drayton, Shropshire, England.
    (c.) The owners of other estates or interests, so far as known to the Minister, are Mary Anne Clifford, now or formerly of Cromwell Road, South Kensington, in the County of Middlesex, in England; Charles Christopher Bowen, of Middleton, Christchurch; Henry Hamilton Loughnan, of Christchurch.

THE MAORI COUNCIL OF THE WHAREKAURI (CHATHAM ISLANDS) MAORI DISTRICT.

BY-LAWS.

THE Maori Council of the Wharekauri (Chatham Islands) Maori District, constituted under “The Maori Councils Act, 1900,” hereby makes the following by-laws under and by virtue of the said Act, such by-laws to come into operation upon approval thereof by the Governor, and the publication of the same in the Gazette and Kahiti:—

Interpretation.

In these by-laws, except when inconsistent with the context, or when otherwise expressly provided, the following expressions shall have the meanings attached thereto:—

“The said Act” means “The Maori Councils Act, 1900.”

“The Council” means the Maori Council of the Wharekauri (Chatham Islands) Maori District, constituted under the said Act.
