Rural Lands in the Otago Land District open for Sale or Selection.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the third day of November, one thousand nine hundred and two; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

An open, undulating section of very fair quality, with a good aspect; all suitable for cultivation. The soil is a black loam on a gravelly subsoil. The section is still in its native state, no portion of it having been yet ploughed. The general elevation is from 2,750 ft. to 2,800 ft. The Otago Central Railway runs along the north-east boundary, and the Ranfurly Railway-station, school, and post-office are distant about four miles. All the roads in the vicinity are good.

Weighted with £17 12s. 6d., valuation for improvements.

An open, undulating section, with a good aspect. The soil, which is a black loam on a gravelly subsoil, is not deep, and the gravel breaks through the surface in some places. No part of the section has yet been cultivated, so that it all still lies in native tussock. The general elevation is about 2,800 ft. The Otago Central Railway skirts the section, which is a little more than four miles distant from Ranfurly Railway-station, school, and post-office.

This block is situated between the Wanganui and the Mangawhero Rivers, and includes Tauakira, the highest point on their common watershed. The access to the western portion is by the Wanganui River to Pitangi Road, opposite Te Rimu, twenty-eight miles from Wanganui; thence by the surveyed but unformed Pitangi Road, which leads into the heart of the block. The access on the eastern side is by the Upokongaro and Field’s Dray Road, eighteen miles, and by pack-track and unformed surveyed roads for the remaining distances.
