Notice to Mariners No. 64 of 1902.

REFERRING to Notice to Mariners No. 48 of 1902, issued by this Department on the 14th July last, the following notice, received from the Marine Board, Port Adelaide, South Australia, is published for general information.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA.—SPENCER GULF.—APPROACH TO PORT PIRIE.—EASTERN SHOAL.

REFERRING to Notice to Mariners No. 11 of 1902, dated the 24th June, masters of vessels, pilots, and others are informed that an occulting light, visible about six miles, is now exhibited from a beacon erected on the north end of Eastern Shoal, 400 yards true north from the present red beacon. Approximate latitude, 33° 4′ 18″ S.; longitude, 137° 48′ 8″ E.

This affects Admiralty Chart No. 2389B and Plan 403.

THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the Acting Portmaster, Brisbane, Queensland, is published for general information.

WIDE BAY BAR.

As the Southern Spit is gradually working to the northward, the square beacons on Hook Point for crossing the bar must now be kept open once their own width to the northward. This will lead well clear of the spit, with a depth of 17 ft. L.W.O.S.T.

Special Order made by the Selwyn County Council.

THE following special order, made by the Selwyn County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

COUNTY OF SELWYN.

Special Order making Special Rate.

In pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Counties Act, 1886,” “The Halswell River Drainage District Act, 1893,” and “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” the Council of the County of Selwyn hereby resolves as follows:—

That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £3,250, authorised to be raised by the Selwyn County Council under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” for the purpose of dredging the River Halswell and the canal and other works described in a notice published in the Press newspaper of the 31st day of August, the 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th days of September, and the 5th day of October, 1901, the said Selwyn County Council hereby makes and levies a special rate of 3½d. in the pound sterling upon the rateable valuation of all rateable property included in Class I. of the Halswell River Drainage District, and of ½d. in the pound sterling upon the rateable valuation of all rateable property included in Class II. of the said district, the boundaries of which said classes are defined and described in the schedule to the above-mentioned notice, and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable half-yearly on the 1st day of February and the 1st day of August in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of twenty-six years, or until the loan is fully paid off.

Made under the seal of the Council of the County of Selwyn, this 3rd day of September, 1902.

The resolution to make this special order was adopted at a special meeting of the Council held on the 2nd August, 1902, and was confirmed at a meeting of the said Council held on the 3rd September, 1902.
