THE following special order, made by the Clifton County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

CLIFTON COUNTY COUNCIL.

Special Order.

In pursuance of the powers vested in them in that behalf, the Clifton County Council hereby resolves as follows:—

That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £1,500, authorised to be raised under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” and its amendments, for the purpose of metalling portions of the Mimi–Mokau Road from the Main North Road northwards, and a portion of the Uruti Road, a distance of about three miles, the said Clifton County Council do hereby make and levy a special rate of ⅞d. in the pound over the Mimi–Mokau Road Special Rating District, comprising the following lands: Section 1, Block VIII., Mimi Survey District; Sections 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, Block VII., Mimi Survey District; Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, Block XI., Mimi Survey District; Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, Block XII., Mimi Survey District; Sections 5, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14, Block XIII., Mimi Survey District; Section 2, Block X., Mimi Survey District; Sections 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 41, Block I., Upper Waitara Survey District; Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, Block II., Upper Waitara Survey District; Sections, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Block III., Upper Waitara Survey District; Sections 5, 6, Block IV., Upper Waitara Survey District; Sections 3, 4, 5, Block V., Upper Waitara Survey District; Sections 3, 4, 7, 9, Block VI., Upper Waitara Survey District; Sections 1, 3, Block VII., Upper Waitara Survey District; Section 1, Block XI., Upper Waitara Survey District; Sections 37, 39, 40, Block IV., Waitara Survey District: and that the said special rate shall be a security for a loan of £1,500, and shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable on the 1st day of February in each and every year during a period equal to the currency of such loan, being a period of twenty-six years, or until the loan is fully paid off; and that the interest paid shall be at the rate of £4 10s. per cent. per annum, and that the cost of raising the loan shall be paid out of the moneys to be borrowed.

The above special order was made on the 7th February, 1902, and confirmed on the 2nd May, 1902.

COLLINGWOOD COUNTY COUNCIL.

Special Order making Special Rate.

In pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Counties Act, 1886,” the Collingwood County Council hereby resolves as follows:—

That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £6,000, authorised to be raised by the Collingwood County Council under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” for forty-one years, at 3¼ per cent., for the following public works in the Takaka Riding of the County of Collingwood,—

  1. Formation and gravelling of the following public roads:—

(a.) Puramahoi Road to Takaka Bridge (including a bridge at Anahau) .. .. .. £ 320

the said Collingwood County Council hereby makes and levies a special rate of ⅞d. in the pound upon the rateable valuation of all the rateable property in the Takaka Riding of the said county; and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable half-yearly on the 23rd day of September and 23rd day of March in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of forty-one years, or until the loan is fully paid off.

I hereby certify that the above special order was adopted at a special meeting of the Collingwood County Council held on the 29th day of July, 1902, and confirmed at a special meeting of the said Council held on the 27th day of August, 1902.

Bonus for the Production of Quicksilver.

Mines Office,
Wellington, 7th June, 1900.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of fourpence (4d.) per pound will be paid on the production of the first one hundred thousand pounds weight (100,000 lb.) of good marketable retorted quicksilver, free from all impurities, from any mine in New Zealand, on the following conditions. that is to say:—

  1. That at least one-third of the quantity is produced on or before the 31st March, 1903, and the remaining two-thirds on or before the 31st March, 1904.

  2. No bonus will be payable until the whole of the one hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.) of quicksilver has been produced as stipulated to the satisfaction of an officer to be appointed by the Minister of Mines, and on whose certificate alone the bonus will be paid.

  3. In the event of more than one person producing the required quantities of quicksilver before the dates named, inquiry will be made by the officer above referred to, when, if it is found that each applicant is equally entitled to a bonus, the amount will be divided in proportion to the quantities produced by each applicant, but in no case shall any bonus be paid until at least one hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.) of quicksilver has been produced in the aggregate.

Bonus for Treatment of Auriferous Black Sand.

Mines Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 14th November, 1901.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of £2,000 will be paid to any person who, before the 1st January, 1904, shall invent such appliances as will successfully save gold from black sands in New Zealand.

The bonus will be paid on compliance with the following conditions:—

  1. The invention shall, in its main features, differ from all machinery and appliances at present in use for the saving of gold, whether coarse or fine.

  2. It shall be readily transportable from place to place, and shall be capable of utilising local water for all its requirements.

  3. The invention must be capable of treating not less than 30 cubic yards an hour of black sand or any coarser material up to a diameter of 4 in.; and it must be capable of treating such material profitably where there is not more than a value, in gold, of 3d. per cubic yard; not less than 80 per cent. of the gold contained in the material to be recovered by the machine.
