N. WATCHER ISL.—A fl. white lt. every 5 secs., elev. 295 ft.
above H.W., R. 23 miles, is exh. from a white iron frame
lt.-h., in 0° 35′ N., 119° 47′ E., on the summit of the isl.,
nrn. entr. to Makassar Strait. July.
TIGER ISLS.—A reef now named Zwaan, about 5 miles long
in a n.-wly. and s.-ely. direction, and which dries in places,
is reported to exist in approx. 6° 24½′ S., 121° 18′ E., off the
N.E. coast of the Tiger Isls., with Tinabu Isl. S. 59° W.
10 miles, and Karompa Isl. N. 88° W. June.
CHINA SEA, ETC.
MIRS BAY.—The following shoals exist in Long Harb.,
Mirs Bay: (1.) A shoal, stones and sand, extending 1¾ cables
from the wrn. side of Grass Isl., carrying 12 ft.; the wrn.
extr. of this shoal is steep-to, and lies with the wrn. extr. of
Grass Isl. (approx. 22° 29′ N., 114° 21′ E.), N. 2° W. 3 cables,
and Sam Mau Shak N. 79° W. (2.) A rk., circular and 75 yds.
in diam., carrying 4½ fms. and steep-to, lies with the wrn.
extr. of Grass Isl. N. 33° E. 6¹⁄₁₀ cables, and Sam Mau Shak
N. 31° W. (3.) A rk., carrying 4 ft., steep-to on its nrn. side,
the 5 fm. contour line extends 45 yds. to the wrd. of it, lies
with the wrn. extr. of Grass Isl. N. 13° W. 7 cables, and
Sam Mau Shak N. 56° W. (4.) A rk., circular and 35 yds. in
diam., carrying 4½ fms. and steep-to, lies with the wrn. extr.
of Grass Isl. N. 3° W. 8½ cables, and Sam Mau Shak N. 41° W.
All depths at L.W. springs. July.
A rk., carrying 1½ fms. at L.W. springs, steep-to on the
ern. side, the 10-fm. contour line extending 1 cable to the
n.-erd., ½ cable to the erd., and 1½ cables to the s.-erd., lies
in approx. 22° 29′ N., 114° 22¾′ E., in the bay, with the ern.
extr. of N. Gau N. 43° W. 3 cables, and s.-ern. extr. of
Grass Isl. S. 41° W. July.
PACIFIC OCEAN.
Coral Sea.
BELLONA REEFS.—The master of the schr. “Waiwera”
reports having seen to the erd. of the Bellona Reefs a reef
about 3½ miles long, enclosing a lagoon, the nrn. end of the
reef being in approx. 20° 32′ S., 159° 35′ E. On the reef was
a sandy cay. Also, another reef, on which was seen the
wrk. of a wooden vessel, in approx. 21° 25′ S., 159° 27′ E.

Oregon.
COLUMBIA RIVER BAR.—On 13th May, 1902, Peacock Spit
bell buoy, conical, latticework surm. by a bell, had gone
adrift. It was to be replaced as soon as practicable. July.
California.
CAPE MENDOCINO.—Blunt’s Reef whistle buoy, red, marked
“Blunt,” is replaced near the position of the prev. buoy, off
the cape (40° 26′ N., 124° 24′ W.). July.
SOUTH AMERICA.
Magellan Strait, &c.
NEW CHAN.—A black buoy surm. by a staff and square
topmark marks the wrn. extr. of new bank on the ern. side
of new chan. between Second Narrows and Broad Reach,
and lies approx. with Cape St. Vincent, W. tangent, N. by
W. ⅔ W.; Elizabeth Isl., N. tangent, W. by S. ⅔ S.; and
Sta. Magdalena Isl., S.E. tangent, S.S.W. ⅓ W. July.
SUNKEN WRECKS.—FIRST NARROWS.—On 17th May a
steamer, two masts standing, and hull proj. at half-tide, lay
on the E. side of the srn. ent. to the First Narrows, 3 cables
from the bluff and 7 cables N.E. ½ N. from Gulf of St.
Vincent rk. July.

County Council, is published in accordance with the
provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

STRATFORD COUNTY COUNCIL.
Special Order making Special Rate.
In pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that
behalf by “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” the Strat-
ford County Council hereby resolves as follows:—
That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other
charges on a loan of £500, authorised to be raised by the
Stratford County Council under the provisions of “The
Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” for the construction of
portions of the Punewhakau and Manga Roads, the said
Stratford County Council hereby makes and levies a special
rate of ¾d. in the pound upon the rateable valuation of all
rateable property of the Punewhakau Road Special Rating
District No. 2, comprising Sections 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, part 26
(eastern half), of Block III., Omona Survey District; Sec-
tions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, part 9 (north western half), part 13
(north-eastern half), 14, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, of Block IV.,
Omona Survey District; Sections 3, 11, 12, 13, of Block XIII.,
Mahoe Survey District; and Sections 1, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13,
14, 15, 16, 17, of Block I., Taurakawa Survey District: and
that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate
during the currency of such loan, and be payable yearly on
the 1st day of February in each and every year during a
period equal to the currency of such loan, being a period of
twenty six years, or until the loan is fully paid off, the rate
of interest to be 4½ per cent. per annum.
The above special order was instituted at a special meeting
held on the 15th day of January, 1902, and confirmed at a
meeting held on the 19th day of February, 1902.

Borough of Milton, is published in accordance with
the provisions of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900.”

BOROUGH OF MILTON.
SIR,—I hereby give you notice that a poll of the electors of
the Borough of Milton, upon a proposal to raise a special
loan of £3,000, for and in connection with the erection of a
Town Hall upon Allotment 17, Block VII., Smith’s Sub-
division of Milton, was taken on the 1st day of August,
1902.
All proceedings required by law to be taken in or towards
obtaining the sanction of the electors of the said borough to
the said proposal were duly taken, and the resolution in
favour of the said proposal was duly carried.
I forward herewith a statutory declaration under “The
Justices of the Peace Act, 1882,” of compliance with the
provisions of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” in
connection with such proposal.

I, William Moore, of Milton, in the Provincial District of
Otago, merchant, Mayor of the Borough of Milton, do
solemnly and sincerely declare as follows:—

That on the 1st day of August, 1902, a poll of the
electors of the Borough of Milton was taken upon a pro-
posal to raise a special loan of £3,000, for and in connec-
tion with the erection of a Town Hall upon Allotment 17,
Block VII., Smith’s Subdivision of the Township of Milton. -
That all proceedings required by law in or towards
obtaining the sanction of the electors of the said borough
to the said proposal were duly taken, and the resolution in
favour of the said proposal has been duly carried.
And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously be-
lieving the same to be true, and by virtue of the provisions
of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand in-
titled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”
