in respect of their mining area on Section 495 and part of
Section 496, Hokonui District; also a special claim over the
road situated in the Charlton Creek Valley. -
The Royal Charlton Gold-dredging Company (Limited),
in respect of their mining area on part of Lots 3 and 4,
Plan 83 aforesaid, and parts Section 4A, Waimumu Hun-
dred. -
The Charlton Valley Gold-dredging Company, in respect
of their mining area on part of Section 454, Hokonui Survey
District. -
The Central Charlton Gold-dredging Company
(Limited), in respect of their mining area on part of Sec-
tion 453, Hokonui District, and part Lot 6, Plan 83 afore-
said. -
The Lady Charlton Gold-dredging Company (Limited),
in respect of their mining area on part of Sections 282 and
242, Hokonui District.
Upon the terms contained in a deed of agreement dated the
24th day of February, 1902, and made between the Honour-
able James McGowan, Minister of Mines, of the first part;
the respective persons whose names are set forth in the
second schedule of the said deed (being the land-owners)
of the second part; and the respective mining companies
whose names are set forth in the third schedule of the said
deed, of the third part: a copy of such deed being deposited
at the Warden’s Court at Gore.

CHRISTCHURCH CITY COUNCIL.
SPECIAL ORDER.
Resolution imposing Special Rate.
IT is hereby publicly notified that the following resolution
was adopted by the Christchurch City Council at a
special meeting of the said Council held on the 9th day of
May, 1902, at 7.30 o’clock p.m.:
“In pursuance and in exercise of the powers vested in it
by ‘The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,’ ‘The Slaughtering and Inspection Act, 1900,’ and ‘The Local Bodies’ Loans
Act, 1901,’ the Christchurch City Council hereby resolves as
follows :—
“That, for the purpose of providing interest and other
charges on a loan of fifteen thousand pounds (£15,000)
authorised to be raised by the Christchurch City Council
under the provisions of ‘The Slaughtering and Inspection
Act, 1900,’ and ‘The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,’ for the
purposes of establishing an abattoir for the city and the
contiguous districts of Linwood, St. Albans, New Brighton,
Sydenham, Sumner, and Woolston in common, the said
Council hereby makes and levies a special annual-recurring
rate of three farthings in the pound on a uniform scale upon
the annual rateable valuation of all rateable property in the
City of Christchurch, comprising all that area in the Pro-
vincial District of Canterbury—bounded towards the north by
original Sections Nos. 6, 46, 206, 257, 243B, 263, 286, and
287, Christchurch Survey District: towards the west and
north generally by the North Avon Road to Section No. 197,
Block XI., Christchurch Survey District; thence by a road
intersecting that section to the road which forms the north-
western boundary of a subdivision of the said Section No. 197,
containing 5 acres 2 roods: thence towards the north-west
by the latter road to a subdivision of Section No. 197 afore-
said, containing 3 acres and 35 perches: thence again towards
the north by the latter subdivision and its southern boundary-
line produced to the River Avon: thence towards the east
and south-east and south by the said River Avon to a point
in line with the western boundary-line of original Section
No. 26 of the said Christchurch Survey District: thence again
towards the east by a right line across the River Avon afore-
said to the north-western corner of the said Section No. 26;
thence by Section No. 26 aforesaid and original Sections Nos.
175 and 69 to the south-western corner of the last-mentioned
section; thence by a right line to the northernmost corner of
original Section No. 13, Christchurch Survey District; thence
by the said Section No. 13: again towards the south by Sec-
tion No. 13 aforesaid and original Sections Nos. 176, 79, 17,
66, and 72, Christchurch Survey District aforesaid, to Lower
Lincoln Road: thence again towards the north-west by the
said Lower Lincoln Road to the River Avon aforesaid: thence
again towards the west by a right line across that river to the
western side of Antigua Street; and thence by the western
side of the said Antigua Street and by the River Avon afore-
said to Section No. 6 aforesaid—as appearing in the valuation
