Proposed Alterations in Boundaries of Electoral Districts, Middle Island.
Wellington, 25th June, 1902.
THE Commissioners for the Middle Island appointed under “The Representation Act Amendment Act, 1896,” and in accordance with the provisions of “The Representation Act, 1887,” and the amendments thereof, hereby publish for general information, in terms of section 4 of the last-named Act, the following proposed alterations in the boundaries of electoral districts; and, further, give notice that written objections to the same will be received at the office of the undersigned, the Chairman of the Middle Island Commission, at his office, corner of Cashel and Manchester Streets, Christchurch, up to noon of the 7th day of August, 1902.
Maps of the proposed districts will be furnished to each local body in the colony, and may also be seen at the Chief Surveyors’ Offices at Nelson, Blenheim, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hokitika, and Invercargill.

MIDDLE ISLAND ELECTORAL DISTRICTS.
CITY OF NELSON.
City of Nelson District comprises the area covered by the existing City of Nelson Electoral District, together with D’Urville Island and Stephens Island, and the Bulwer Peninsula extending from Hallam Cove to Harding Point. The City of Nelson, the Borough of Richmond, and Town District of Havelock are in this district.
MOTUEKA.
Motueka District comprises the area covered by the existing Motueka Electoral District; together with that portion of Hampden Riding of Inangahua County situated to the north-east of a line commencing at the Buller River where that river is crossed by the western boundary of Inangahua County, and proceeding thence easterly along the left bank of the said Buller River to a point about 30 chains westward of Doughboy Creek, thence along the leading spur to Mount Mantell, and thence along the summit of the Mantell Range and the summit of Cann Range to the Spenser Mountains near Faerie Queen. The Borough of Motueka is in this district.
BULLER.
Buller District comprises the Borough of Westport; the Boatman’s, Murray, Crushington, and Reefton Ridings of Inangahua County; and the south-western portion of Hampden Riding of Inangahua County, which is bounded towards the north by the Buller River from the Buller County boundary to a point about 30 chains westward of Doughboy Creek, and thence by the summit of the leading spur to Mount Mantell, and thence by the summits of the Mantell and Cann Ranges to the Spenser Mountains near Faerie Queen; together with the Lyell, Wareatea North, Wareatea South, and Charleston Ridings of Buller County.
GREY.
Grey District comprises the area covered by the existing Grey Electoral District, less Charleston Riding of Buller County, which has been added to Buller District hereinbefore described; together with Marsden Riding of Grey County, and a small portion of Maori Creek Riding of Grey County situated between Maori Creek Road and Marsden Riding. The Boroughs of Greymouth and Brunner are in this district.
WESTLAND.
Westland District comprises the area covered by the existing Westland Electoral District, less the whole of Marsden Riding of Grey County and that portion of Maori Creek Riding of Grey County, which have been included in the Grey District hereinbefore described. The Boroughs of Hokitika, Kumara, and Ross are in this district.
WAIRAU.
Wairau District comprises the area covered by the existing Wairau Electoral District, excepting that stretch of country extending from Cook Strait to Barefell Pass, known as that portion of Awatere Riding of Marlborough County situated south-east of a line commencing at Cook Strait at Lake Grasmere, and proceeding south-westerly along the northern shore of that lake to the Main Road, thence along the Main Road to Blind River Creek, thence along Blind River Creek to its source, thence along a right line to Mount Peter, thence along the summit of the Kaikoura Range over Monument Hill, Big Cregan, Tapuaenuku, and Mount Monro, to Barefell Pass; and excepting also D’Urville Island, Stephens Island, and the Bulwer Peninsula extending easterly from Hallam Cove to Harding Point. The Boroughs of Blenheim and Picton are in this district.
HURUNUI.
Hurunui comprises the Counties of Kaikoura, Amuri, and Cheviot, and that portion of Awatere Riding of Marlborough County not absorbed by the Wairau District hereinbefore described; together with the Waipara, Kowai, and Mount Thomas Ridings of Ashley County. Amberley Town District is in this district.
KAIAPOI.
Kaiapoi District comprises the Boroughs of Rangiora and Kaiapoi, together with the Mandeville, Cust, Eyreton, and West Eyreton Ridings of Ashley County.
AVON.
Avon District comprises the Boroughs of New Brighton and Linwood; that portion of Heathcote Riding of Selwyn County situated north of the Boroughs of Woolston and Linwood; the New Brighton Subdivision of Avon Road District; that portion of Richmond Subdivision of Avon Road District lying eastward of the road forming the western boundaries of Sections Nos. 713 and 1135, Block XI., Christchurch Survey District; and the whole of Styx Subdivision of Avon Road District excepting that portion extending about two miles and three-quarters south from the mouth of the Waimakariri River, and lying north of Rural Sections Nos. 2638, 2637, 2340, 31684, 20428, and 19571.
CITY OF CHRISTCHURCH.
City of Christchurch comprises the City of Christchurch, the Borough of St. Albans, the Borough of Sydenham, and Hagley Park.
RICCARTON.
Riccarton comprises the Riccarton Road District; the Papanui and Belfast Subdivisions of Avon Road District; that portion of Richmond Subdivision of Avon Road District situated westward of Sections Nos. 713 and 1135, Block XI., Christchurch Survey District; and that portion of Styx Subdivision of Avon Road District which extends about two miles and three-quarters south from the mouth of the Waimakariri River, and is situated north of Sections Nos. 2638, 2637, 2340, 31684, 20428, and 19571, Block IV., Christchurch Survey District; together with that portion of Templeton Road District lying east of a line commencing at the junction of Springs Road with Junction Road, and proceeding thence northerly along Springs Road to the South Road, thence westerly along the South Road to the Southbridge Railway-line, thence northerly along the Southbridge Railway-line to Hornby Junction Road, and thence along Hornby Junction Road to the north-eastern boundary of Templeton Road District.
ELLESMERE.
Ellesmere District comprises that portion of Ellesmere Riding of Selwyn County within the boundaries of the existing Ellesmere Electoral District: that portion of Lincoln Riding of Selwyn County situated south of a line commencing at the Selwyn Railway-bridge, and proceeding easterly along the Southbridge Branch Railway from the River Selwyn to the Little River Railway; thence southerly along the Little River Railway to the road forming the southern boundaries of Rural Sections Nos. 10211 and 9499; thence easterly along that road to the western boundary of Rural Sections Nos. 4727 and 4754; and thence southerly along the western boundary of the last-mentioned sections to the Halswell River: the Taitapu Road District of Selwyn County: together with the Borough of Akaroa, and the whole of Akaroa County less that portion of Port Victoria Road District lying to the west of Gebbie’s Pass Road, leading from the head of the Bay to the road district boundary and Lyttelton harbour. Southbridge Town District is in this district.
LYTTELTON.
Lyttelton District comprises the Boroughs of Lyttelton, Woolston, and Sumner; that portion of the Heathcote Riding of Selwyn County within the boundaries of the existing Lyttelton Electoral District; that portion of the Victoria Road District of Akaroa County situated within the boundaries of the existing Lyttelton Electoral District; that portion of Halswell Road District of Selwyn County situated east of a line starting from the road at the southern corner of Spreydon Road District near Cashmere, and proceeding southerly along the road intersecting Section No. 383, and passing Sections Nos. 502, 1324, 4682, 2599, 4620, 2063, 31362, intersecting Sections Nos. 10210 and 493, to Section No. 452, and thence along the north-western and south-western boundaries of the last-mentioned section to the eastern boundary of Halswell Road District; and that portion of Spreydon Road District of Selwyn County situated south of Stark’s Road and east of Barrington Road.
