CHATHAM SOUND.—A F. white lt., vis. from N. 73° W., through N. and E., to S. 22° E., but partially hidden by trees from N. 73° W. to N. 65° W., and obsc. in other directions, elev. 55 ft. above H.W., R. 13 miles, is exh. in 54° 7′ N., 130° 20⅜′ W., from a square wooden tower 48 ft. high, surm. a wooden dwelling, white with red roof, est. on the wrn. side, about 1¼ cables S.-erd. from the N.W. pt. of the nrn. Lawyer Isl., Malacca Passage Feb.

Vancouver Island.

BROTCHY LEDGE.—Amended description of Brotchy Ledge lt.-h., in approx. 48° 24½′ N., 123° 23½′ W., entr. to Victoria Harb.: The beacon is a truncated cone, the top 10 ft. in diam. and 10 ft. above H.W., surm. by an open steel frame in the form of a truncated pyra., which supports the lt. and fog-sig. at an elev. of 22 ft. above H.W. The whole beacon is black. March.

SIDNEY CHAN.—The beacon on the N.W. extr. of Sidney Spit, which was blown down, is re-est.; the upper part is white and the lower part black. March.

The 2 red spar buoys, prev. marking the shoal extending from the coast at Sidney, in approx. 48° 39′ N., 123° 24′ W., have been re-est. in their original positions on the N.-ern. and S.-wrn. extrs. of the shoals. The beacon, 50 ft. high, on the N.-wrn. extr. of Sidney Isl., bears about N. 53° E., 17¾ cables, and N. 47° E., 18⅔ cables, from their respective positions. March.

California.

SAN FRANCISCO HARB.—On 15th March, 1902, the S. San Francisco leading-lts., nrn. side of the cut, ent. to San Bruno dredged chan., srn. part of San Francisco Bay, are to be disc. The rear beacon will remain as a daymark. On the same date, a F. red lt., elev. 18 ft. above H.W., is to be exh. from a red lt.-h. surm. a pile beacon, in 13 ft. L.W., on the nrn. side of the cut, about 15 ft. in rear of the prev. site of the front lt. of the S. San Francisco leading-lts. March.

ARGUELLO PT.—The whistle buoy, formerly moored in 34° 34¼′ N., 120° 40⅞′ W., about 1⅓ miles W.S.W. from Arguello Pt. lt.-h., has been withdrawn. Feb.

DUME PT.—About 15th March, 1902, a red whistle buoy, marked “Pt. Dume” in black, is to be moored in 15 fms., in approx. 34° 0′ N., 118° 49′ W., about ½ mile S. 6° E. from the pt. March.

SAN DIEGO BAY.—On 28th Feb., 1902, a F. white lt. elev. 18 ft. above H.W., is to be exh. from an arm on the chan. side of San Diego Bay Beacon, No. 5, a black triangular pile structure, crossed with slats, with “5” in white on sides, in 7 ft. water, in approx. 32° 43¼′ N., 117° 12¾′ W., on the nrn. side of the chan. of the bay. March.

South America.
Magellan Strait, &c.

DELGADA PT.—About the middle of March, 1902, the occ. white lt. (52° 28′ S., 69° 32¼′ W.) on the pt. is to be replaced by a F. lt. showing white seaward through an arc of 170°, red through an arc of 26° over the Plumper Bank, and also through an arc of 6° over the Satellite Patch; and obsc. over the land; elev. 48 ft. above H.W., R. 10 miles, exh. from a white cyl. lt.-h., with a red lantern; the houses in the vicinity being white with red roofs. March.

East Coast.

RIO DE LA PLATA.—BUENOS AIRES.—A lt.-v., hull red and black hor., with “Faro de Rada” on sides, 3 masts, the mainmast surm. by a ball, red and black, and exh. a F. red lt., R. 7 miles, is moored in approx. 34° 37⅝′ S., 58° 3⅓′ W., in the outer roads. Vessels of 22 ft. draught and upwards should anchor to the erd. of the lt.-v. Feb.


Tenders for Police Tweed and Bedford Cord accepted.

IT is notified for general information that the under-mentioned tenders for the supply and delivery of blue tweed and khaki Bedford cord for police have been accepted for the three years ending 31st March, 1905.

Name of Tenderer. A. Blue Tweed, Indigo-wool-dyed, 29 in. wide, 11 oz. to yard, each yard to be equal to 37 in. in length, at per yard. B. Khaki Bedford Cord, 29 in. wide, 15½ oz. to yard, each yard to be equal to 37 in. in length, at per yard.

THE following notices, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Gore, are published in accordance with the provisions of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900.”

BOROUGH OF GORE.

In the matter of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900.”

PURSUANT to the provisions of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” I, Archibald Alexander MacGibbon, Mayor of the Borough of Gore, hereby give you notice that on the 28th day of February, 1902, a meeting of the electors of the Borough of Gore was held to consider the following proposals: that is to say, that the Gore Borough Council be authorised to raise a special loan for the following undertakings—that is to say, sale-yards, £450; bridge, £350; town clock, £300; purchase and extension of electric-light works, £5,000; total, £6,100—and that the said loans be secured by the issue of debentures of £100 sterling or part of £100 sterling each, bearing interest at the rate of £4 10s. per centum per annum, payable half-yearly, and sinking fund of £1 per centum per annum, payable half-yearly, and repayable as to principal twenty-five years after the issue thereof, upon special rate on the annual value of rateable property in the borough; that on the 14th day of March, 1902, a poll of the electors of the Borough of Gore was taken on the proposals mentioned; that on the taking of the said poll all the said proposals were carried.

And I hereby request you to cause a copy of this notice to be published in the Gazette.

In the matter of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900.”

I, Archibald Alexander MacGibbon, Mayor of the Borough of Gore, do hereby solemnly and sincerely declare,—

  1. That I am Mayor of the Borough of Gore.

  2. That on the 28th day of February, 1902, a meeting of the electors of the Borough of Gore was held to consider the following proposals: that is to say, that the Gore Borough Council be authorised to raise a special loan for the following undertakings—that is to say, sale-yards, £450; bridge, £350; town clock, £300; purchase and extension of electric-light works, £5,000: total, £6,100—and that the said loans be secured by the issue of debentures of £100 sterling or part of £100 sterling each, bearing interest at the rate of £4 10s. per centum per annum, payable half-yearly, and sinking fund of £1 per centum per annum, payable half-yearly, and repayable as to principal twenty-five years after the issue thereof, upon special rate on the annual value of rateable property in the borough.

  5. That all proceedings required by law to be taken in or towards obtaining the sanction of the electors to the proposal have been duly taken, and that the resolutions in favour of the said proposals have been duly carried.

And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and under and by virtue of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”
