Rural Lands in the Wellington Land District open for Sale or Selection.
RANFURLY, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the twelfth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and two; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

These sections are situated in the Waimarino Block. The access is from Raetihi, which is about six miles distant via the Raetihi-Ohura and the Middle Roads, which are formed for dray traffic for about four miles; the rest is a formed bridle-track. The sections comprise all flat land, with good milling timber; the soil is of good quality, resting on papa-and-grit formation; the forest is heavy throughout, comprising chiefly rimu, matai, miro, tawhero, tawa, &c., with thick undergrowth of the usual kind; the sections are well watered by the Orautou and other streams; the elevation ranges from 2,200 ft. to 2,500 ft. above sea-level. The improvements on Section 5 consist of about 12 acres felled and grassed, valued at £24; the improvements on Section 7 consist of 25 acres felled and grassed, valued at £50.
CLIFTON No. 2 BLOCK.

This section is situated in the Clifton No. 2 Block. The access is from Raetihi Township, which is about three miles and a half distant, via the Makotuku Valley Road. The section comprises all flat land, with good milling timber; the soil is fair light loam, resting on sandstone formation; the forest is heavy throughout, comprising chiefly rimu, matai, miro, hinau, maire, kahikatea, &c., with an undergrowth of karamo, horopito, &c.; the section is well watered by the Makotuku and other streams. The improvements comprise 10½ acres felled and grassed, at £2 5s. per acre: total, £23 12s. 6d.
WANGANUI UNITED EAST BLOCK.

This section is situated in the Wanganui United East Block. The access is from Ohakune, which is about four miles distant, via the Ohakune to Rangataua Roads. The section comprises mostly undulating land, with low hills and occasional small flats; the soil is of good quality, resting on sandstone-and-papa formation; the forest is heavy throughout, comprising rimu, matai, maire, totara, rata, &c., with a thick undergrowth of the usual kind; the section is fairly well watered by small streams; the elevation ranges from about 2,000 ft. to 2,300 ft. above sea-level. The improvements consist of 12 acres felled and grassed, at £2 per acre—£24.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this fourth day of December, 1901.

WHEREAS the lands mentioned in the Schedule hereto are required to be taken for a public work, to wit, the purposes of a magazine reserve in Block XIII., Ohinemuri Survey District: And whereas the said lands are held or occupied by Native owners under a title which is not derived from the Crown: And whereas a map in duplicate has been prepared of the said lands by the Ohinemuri County Council, as required by the eighty-eighth section of “The Public Works Act, 1894”:
Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in him by the eighty-eighth section of the said Act, and of all other powers in anywise enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby declare that the land shown upon such map, and described in the Schedule hereto, shall be deemed to be taken for the purpose of the said magazine reserve, and the said land shall vest in the County Council of Ohinemuri, as from the first day of February, one thousand nine hundred and two.
