to “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” give you notice that, on the 17th day of October, 1901, a poll of burgesses of the said Borough of Timaru was taken, under the provisions of the said Act, and also under the provisions of “The Regulation of Local Elections Act, 1876,” on a proposal of the Council of the said borough to borrow the sum of £4,000 by way of special loan for the purpose of public abattoirs, under the provisions of the said Acts, a copy of which proposal is next hereinafter set out.

Timaru Borough Council.--Public Notice.

The Council of the Borough of Timaru purpose to borrow by way of special loan the following sum : £4,000 for public abattoirs; at a rate not exceeding 4½ per centum per annum; security—over land, works, and fees, also a rate of 7d. in the pound on the annual rateable value of all rateable property within the borough, to provide interest and sinking fund.

And I also give you notice that the number of votes recorded upon the taking of the said poll for and against the said proposal was as follows: Number of votes for the proposal, 210; number of votes against the proposal, 199.

Declaration.

In the matter of a loan of £4,000 for public abattoirs, and a proposal of the Timaru Borough Council to borrow the sum of £4,000 for such purpose under “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900.”

I, Charles Nicholson Macintosh, of Timaru, in the Provincial District of Canterbury, in the Colony of New Zealand, Mayor of the Borough of Timaru, do solemnly and sincerely declare as follows:—

  1. That all proceedings as required by the above-named Act to be taken towards obtaining the sanction of the burgesses of the said Borough of Timaru to a proposal of the Council of the said borough to raise the sum of £4,000 by way of special loan, under the provisions of the said Act, have been duly taken.

  2. That upon a poll of the said burgesses, taken on the said proposal on the 17th day of October, 1901, the said proposal was duly carried within the meaning of the above-named Act.

And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Borough of City of Nelson.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of City of Nelson, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900.”

NOTICE OF POLL FOR SPECIAL LOAN.

To the Hon. the Colonial Secretary.

Sir,—In pursuance of the provisions of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” I hereby give you notice that a poll of the electors of the City of Nelson was taken on Wednesday, the 30th day of October, 1901, upon the following proposal to raise a special loan, namely:—

  1. The particular undertaking proposed to be engaged in is the improvement of the city water-supply (including additional main and 30 ft. dam) as proposed by the City Surveyor, being a portion of the scheme approved of by Mr. Mestayer.

  2. The sum proposed to be borrowed for such purpose is £15,000.

  3. The security proposed for such loan is, in addition to the works to be carried out, and the revenue of the Waterworks Account (subject to existing loans), a special rate of 2¼d. in the pound on the annual value of all rateable property within the said city, such rate only to be collected in the event of the interest not being duly paid out of revenue. It is proposed to repay the said loan by reborrowing at the expiration of thirty years from the date of raising same.

The result of the said poll was as follows :—

Number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal, 305; number of votes against the proposal, 219; informal, 14: majority in favour of the proposal, 86.

A majority of valid votes cast at the said poll having been given in favour of the said proposal, I hereby declare that the resolution in favour of the said proposal has been duly carried.

In the matter of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900.”

I, Henry Baigent, of the City of Nelson, in New Zealand, Mayor of the said city, do solemnly and sincerely declare that all proceedings required by law to be taken in or towards obtaining the sanction of the electors of the said city to the proposal to raise a special loan of £15,000 for the improvement of the city water-supply have been duly taken, and that the resolution in favour of the said proposal has been duly carried. And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

I HEREBY give public notice of the number of votes recorded for and against the proposal to borrow £2,000, at a poll taken on 29th August, 1901, for the purpose of widening Bannister Street, as follows:—

For the proposal, 195; against the proposal, 107; informal, 5.

I therefore declare the proposal to be carried.

I, Richard Brown, Town Clerk of the Borough of Masterton, do solemnly and sincerely declare that all proceedings required by law to be taken in or towards obtaining the sanction of the electors to the proposal to borrow the sum of £2,000 for the purpose of widening Bannister Street have been duly taken, and that the resolution in favour of the proposal has been duly carried; and I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

THE following is the result of the poll taken on the 26th October, 1901, on the proposal to borrow from the Government the sum of £1,500 under the provisions of “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and its amendments:—

For the proposal, 34; against the proposal, 12: majority for the proposal, 22.

I therefore declare the proposal carried.
