LAW RELATING TO COMMERCIAL RELATIONS WITH THE BRITISH EMPIRE OF THE 29TH MAY, 1901.
We, William, by the grace of God German Emperor, King of Prussia, &c., ordain the following in the name of the Empire, with the assent of the Bundesrath and of the Reichstag, for the period beginning on the 30th July.
The Bundesrath is authorised to grant to the nationals and products of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, as well as to those of British colonies and foreign possessions, until the 31st December, 1903, the advantages conceded by the Empire to the nationals and products of the most-favoured-nation country.
Given at Berlin, under our own hand and seal, at the Schloss, 29th May, 1901.

NOTIFICATION RESPECTING THE COMMERCIAL RELATIONS WITH THE BRITISH EMPIRE, DATED 11TH JUNE, 1901.
(Translation.)
In virtue of the law respecting the commercial relations with the British Empire dated 29th May, 1901, the Council of the Empire has determined, for the period after the 30th July, 1901, to accord until further notice to subjects and products of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, as well as to those of British colonies and foreign possessions, with the exception of Canada, the same privileges as are granted to the subjects and products of the most favoured nation.

THE following notices, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Timaru are published in accordance with the provisions of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900.”

I, CHARLES NICHOLSON MACINTOSH, Mayor of the Borough of Timaru, in the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby, pursuant to “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” give you notice that, on the 17th day of October, 1901, a poll of burgesses of the said Borough of Timaru was taken, under provisions of the said Act, and also under the provisions of “The Regulation of Local Elections Act, 1876,” on a proposal of the Council of the said borough to borrow the sum of £10,000 by way of special loan for the purpose of drainage, under provisions of the said Acts, a copy of which proposal is next hereinafter set out.

Timaru Borough Council.—Public Notice.
The Council of the Borough of Timaru purpose to borrow by way of special loan the following sum: £10,000 for inverting gullies, channelling, drainage, and taking levels; at a rate not exceeding 4½ per centum per annum; security — special rate of 2½d. in the pound on the annual rateable value of all rateable property within the borough, to provide interest and 1 per cent. sinking fund.

And I also give you notice that the number of votes recorded upon the taking of the said poll for and against the said proposal was as follows: Number of votes for the proposal, 253 ; number of votes against the proposal, 167.
Declaration.
In the matter of a loan of £10,000 for drainage purposes, and a proposal of the Timaru Borough Council to borrow the sum of £10,000 for such purposes under “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900.”
I, Charles Nicholson Macintosh, of Timaru, in the Provincial District of Canterbury, in the Colony of New Zealand, Mayor of the Borough of Timaru, do solemnly and sincerely declare as follows:—

That all proceedings as required by the above-named Act to be taken towards obtaining the sanction of the burgesses of the said Borough of Timaru to a proposal of the Council of the said borough to raise the sum of £10,000 by way of special loan, under the provisions of the said Act, have been duly taken.

That upon a poll of the said burgesses, taken on the said proposal on the 17th day of October, 1901, the said proposal was duly carried within the meaning of the above-named Act.
And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”
