THE following colonies have prohibited the importation of swine from New Zealand for the periods stated opposite the name of each respectively :—
Queensland .. Six months from 11th September, 1901.
New South Wales One year from 21st March, 1901.
Victoria Till revoked.
South Australia One year from 22nd May, 1901.
Western Australia Till revoked.
Tasmania One year from 13th April, 1901.

CHINA.—TUNGHAI OR EASTERN SEA.
Verification and Position of Socotra Shoal.
With reference to Notice to Mariners No. 560 of 1900:—
Telegraphic information, dated 1st August, 1901, has been received from Lieutenant and Commander W. O. Lyne, H.M. surveying-vessel “ Waterwitch,” that he has searched for the shoal reported north-eastward of the Great Yangtse Bank by the P. and O. Co.’s s.s. “ Socotra” in 1900, and found a rock, with a depth of 18 feet over it, in lat. 32° 7' N., long. 125° 11' E., or about five miles south-eastward of the “ Socotra’s” position.
It has been placed on the charts as Socotra Rock.
This notice affects the following Admiralty charts: Nipon, &c., No. 2347; Hongkong to Liau-tung Gulf, No. 1262; Amoy to Nagasaki, No. 2412; also China Sea Directory, Vol. iii., 1894, page 415.

Notice to Mariners No. 63 of 1901.

THE following Notices to Mariners, received from the Department of Ports and Harbours, Melbourne, Victoria, are published for general information.

VICTORIA.
Port of Geelong.
MARINERS and others are hereby informed that, repairs being completed to the dredge “ John Nimmo,” such dredge will resume dredging operations in Hopetoun Channel on the 11th September, 1901, and there will be exhibited a basket ball by day and three red lights in a vertical position by night, from the port or starboard side of the dredger, to indicate the side on which vessels navigating the channel are to pass such dredger.
The dredger will be moored at night on the south side of the channel, consequently vessels passing through the channel at night must pass to the northward of the dredger.
Brackets and signals will be erected on the channel beacons for dredging purposes only, such brackets projecting towards the channel a distance of 26 ft.

Port of Geelong.—Hopetoun Channel.
Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 88, dated the 30th May, 1901, it is hereby notified that the black ball surmounting the pile beacon on the port bank of the Hopetoun Channel, directly opposite No. 6 beacon, will be replaced on the 31st October by a black cylinder with conical capping and vertical reflectors showing reflected rays coloured red from the white light on the beacon opposite.

Alterations to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.
IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under “The Government Railways Act, 1900,” I, Joseph George Ward, Minister for Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand Government railways open for traffic, such alterations to come into force on and after the 14th day of October, 1901:—
