boundary of Section 60; thence northerly along the eastern
boundaries of Sections 60, 59, 58, 56, to High Street; thence
westerly along the said street to the Railway Terrace;
thence northerly along said terrace to Ewen Road; thence
westerly along said road to the starting-point: as the same
is more particularly delineated on the plan deposited in the
offices of the Council of Temuka, No. 1, and which plan can
be inspected during office hours.

  1. For such purposes to raise from the Government of
    New Zealand, or elsewhere, a loan of £2,500, the interest
    thereon for the first year, and the preliminary expenses
    incurred in formulating the proposed scheme, and the cost of
    raising such loan, to be paid out of the loan.

  2. To pledge as security for the repayment of such loan
    and the interest thereon an annually recurring special rate
    of ¾d. in the pound sterling, levied on the annual rateable
    value of all properties in the Borough of Temuka lying
    within the aforesaid boundaries, for a period not exceeding
    twenty-six years from the date of raising such loan.

  3. To set apart or pay annually the sum of £112 10s. as
    interest and sinking fund or payment in reduction of the
    proposed loan.

In the matter of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900.”
I, John Turnbull Murray Hayhurst, Mayor of the Borough
of Temuka, do solemnly and sincerely declare that all
proceedings required by law to be taken in or towards
obtaining the sanction of the electors (other than those
enrolled upon a residential qualification) of that portion
of the Borough of Temuka defined in the notice hereto
attached to the proposal of the Council of the Borough of
Temuka set out in the notice in writing of even date here-
with, under my hand, addressed to the Hon. the Colonial
Secretary, and hereunto attached (which proposal relates
to the raising of a special loan of £2,500 for the purpose of
establishing a water-supply and drainage scheme within
the said borough), have been duly taken, and that the
resolution in favour of the said proposal was duly carried.

And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously be-
lieving the same to be true, and by virtue of the provisions
of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled
“The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Upper Wangaehu Road
Board, County of Wanganui.

the Upper Wangaehu Road Board, is published in
accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’
Loans Act, 1886.”

UPPER WANGAEHU ROAD BOARD.

Result of poll on proposal to borrow £3,000 to complete
and extend the Wangaehu Valley Road to Pungataua, &c.:
Total number of ratepayers on roll, 27, representing 40
votes: Votes recorded for the proposal, 24; votes against
the proposal, 5; informal, 0; votes not recorded, 11.

As a majority in number of the ratepayers voted in favour
of the proposal, and the number so voting are entitled to
more than three-fifths of the votes exercised by the whole
number of ratepayers, I do hereby declare the proposal to
be carried.

THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the
Department of Navigation, Sydney, New South
Wales, is published for general information.

NEW SOUTH WALES.
Department of Navigation,
Sydney, 20th June, 1901.

MASTERS of vessels and others are hereby informed of the
existence of a rock approximately 1 cable long by ½ cable
wide, with a minimum depth of 1½ fathoms over it at low

water springs, lying 4½ cables from the shore and 5 cables
50° west from North Evans Reef.

As it has a general depth of 2½ fathoms, no break is
visible in ordinary weather.

This is the rock upon which the s.s. “Oakland” was
found by the Court of Marine Inquiry to have struck in
the passage between North Evans Reef and the mainland.

Officer, Madras, are published for general information.

EAST COAST.—ARMEGHON.

With reference to this office Notice to Mariners No. 16, of
29th April, 1901, it is hereby notified that the light at
Armeghon will be extinguished from and after the 1st Feb-
ruary, 1902, for a period of two months, and will be re-
exhibited on the 1st April, 1902. During the interval a
temporary fixed white light will be exhibited from the roof
of lightkeepers’ quarters, visible in all directions seaward
twelve miles.

EAST COAST.—PULICAT.

With reference to this office Notice to Mariners No. 20,
dated 29th April, 1901, it is notified that the light at Pulicat
will be extinguished from and after 1st November, 1901, for
a period of two months, and will be re-exhibited on the 1st
January, 1902. During the interval a temporary fixed
white light will be exhibited from the roof of lightkeepers’
quarters, visible in all directions seaward ten miles.

Vakalapudi Light.

With reference to this office Notice to Mariners No. 15, of
29th April, 1901, it is further notified that the Vakalapudi
light will be extinguished from and after the 15th Novem-
ber, 1901, for a period of two months, and will be re-
exhibited on the 15th January, 1902. During the interval a
temporary fixed white light will be exhibited from the
existing tower.

EAST COAST.—SEVEN PAGODAS OR MAHABALIPURAM.

With reference to this office Notice No. 43, of 12th Novem-
ber, 1900, it is hereby notified that the triple-flashing white
light referred to has been exhibited from the 1st July, 1901,
from a masonry tower on a rock at Seven Pagodas or Maha-
balipuram—latitude, 12° 36′ 50″ N.; longitude, 80° 11′ 30″ E.
The light will be 137 ft. above high water, and will be visible
eighteen miles in clear weather in all directions seaward.

WEST COAST.—PORAKAD.

The commander of the s.s. “Bhundara” reports having
found shoal water—viz., 4½ fathoms—where 7 and 8 fathoms
are shown on the chart, between the following bearings:—
First position: Porakad, S. 73° E.; Alleppy Lighthouse,
N. 15° E.
Second position: Porakad Flagstaff, N. 75° E.; Alleppy
Lighthouse, N. 6° E.
All bearings are magnetic.
