ROCKS REPORTED IN POVERTY BAY, OFF GISBORNE.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 13th August, 1901.

CAPTAIN POST, of the New Zealand Government steamship “Tutanekai,” reports having examined the rocks on which the s.s. “Tokomaru” and the s.s. “Tomoana” lately touched in Poverty Bay, off Gisborne. The following are the bearings (magnetic):—

TOKOMARU ROCK.
Red buoy .. .. N. 2° W. dist. 1·7 cables.
Pah Hill (trig.) .. .. N. 70° E.
Flagstaff .. .. N. 12° E.
Tuamotu Island (trig.) .. S. 75° E.
Least water, 25 ft. at low water springs.

TOMOANA ROCK.
Red buoy .. .. N. 29° W. dist. 1·9 cables.
Pah Hill .. .. N. 69° E.
Flagstaff .. .. N. 8° E.
Tuamotu Island .. S. 74° E.
Least water, 25 ft. at low water springs.

Vessels of heavy draught should not anchor to the northward of the ten-fathoms line in that part included between the green lights in line and the red lights in line, as this ground is foul with pinnacle rocks for two cables’ distance from the red buoy.

The position of each of these rocks has been temporarily marked by a small buoy.

Notice by the Public Trustee under “The Unclaimed Lands Act, 1894.”

To the owner or owners of a parcel of land, containing 1 acre, more or less, being Allotment 195, Section 2, Town of Opotiki, in the Provincial District of Auckland. The title is registered in the name of George Seymour, described as of Mercury Bay, bushman. The registrations disclose as follows: The land is presumably subject to a receipt of £5, paid 1st October, 1868, to George Seymour, by John Connelly, of Opotiki, and mortgage from George Seymour to Richard Laishley, solicitor, Auckland, date 24th November, 1879. The mortgage is now none in fact.

WHEREAS the Public Trustee has instituted inquiries, and has not thereby ascertained who the owner or owners of the above-described land is or are, and believes that such owner is, or owners are, not in the colony:

Now, this notice calls upon such owner or owners, within six months of the date of the publication of this notice in this Gazette, to establish to the satisfaction of the Public Trustee his or their title to the land specified in this notice; and, if such owner does or owners do not, within the time limited, so establish his or their title, the Public Trustee will exercise the powers and authorities granted to him in and by “The Unclaimed Lands Act, 1894.”

Dated this 12th day of August, 1901.

J. W. POYNTON,
Public Trustee.
