The Borough of Westport.—Form of Voting-paper for Loan.
—Proposal to raise a Special Loan, upon which a Poll will be taken upon the 20th Day of December, 1900.
Notice is hereby given that the Council of the Borough of Westport proposes to construct waterworks for the Borough of Westport, the supply to be obtained from Giles Creek, and for such purpose proposes to borrow the sum of fifteen thousand pounds (£15,000) by way of special loan, under the provisions of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” for a period of forty-one (41) years, with interest to be paid at the rate of three and one-half (3½) per cent. per annum.
The Council proposes to pledge as security for such loan a special annual-recurring rate of sevenpence in the pound upon the rateable value of all rateable property within the Borough of Westport, and also the whole of the waterworks to be constructed and the revenues to be derived therefrom.

I, James Scanlon, of the Town of Westport, builder, Mayor of the Borough of Westport, do solemnly and sincerely declare as follows:—

That all the proceedings required by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” in or towards obtaining the sanction of the burgesses of the Borough of Westport to a proposal of the Council of the said borough to borrow the sum of £15,000 by way of special loan under the provisions of the said Act, which proposal is set out in the voting-paper hereunto annexed and marked with the letter A, have been duly taken.

That upon a poll of the said burgesses taken on the said proposal on the 20th day of December, 1900, the said proposal was duly carried within the meaning of “The Local Government Voting Reform Act, 1899.”
And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Moa Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

Moa Road Board.
RESULT of poll of ratepayers of the Bedford Road South Special Rating District, taken on 8th December, 1900, upon the following proposal: (1.) To form and gravel the Bedford Road South from the Dudley Road West southwards. (2.) To borrow for such purpose the sum of £230 under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and its amendments, subsection (1), clause 2; such loan being for a period of twenty-six years, and the interest at the rate of 4½ per cent. per annum. (3.) To strike as security for such loan a special rate of 7d. in the pound. (4.) To constitute the “Bedford Road South Special Rating District,” to comprise the following lands: viz., Sections pt. 5, 6, 7, 8, pt. 126, 127, 128, 138, 139, Block VIII., Egmont Survey District:—
Total number of ratepayers on special roll, 6; total number of votes exercisable, 6: Total number of votes recorded for proposal, 4; total number of votes recorded against proposal, nil.
I hereby declare proposal carried.

Arrangements for First Elections, &c., Masterton County.

to be the person to make up electors’ rolls for the Ridings of Alfredton, Upper Taueru, Rangitumau, Wainuoru, Opaki, and Te Whiti, in the County of Masterton, as constituted under “The Counties Act, 1886,” and “The Masterton County Act, 1900”; also to be the Returning Officer to conduct the first elections of members of the Council of the said county, and also to be Clerk of the Masterton County Council for the purpose of presiding at the first meeting thereof.

Licensing of Vehicles By-law made by the Grey County Council.

IT is hereby notified, in accordance with section 311 of “The Counties Act, 1886,” that so much of the By-law No. 12, made by the Grey County Council, and sealed on the 4th day of January, 1901, as appoints the several sums to be paid to the county funds for the licensing of vehicles has this day been approved by His Excellency the Governor.

SIR,—With reference to my telegram of the 16th instant I have the honour to transmit to you, for the information of your Government, a copy of “An Act to amend the Law relating to the Exportation of Arms, Ammunition, and Military and Naval Stores” (63–64 Vict., ch. 34), together with a copy of a Proclamation issued thereunder,* prohibiting the exportation to China of arms and ammunition from and after the date thereof.

WHEREAS by “The Exportation of Arms Act, 1900,” section 1, it is enacted that it shall be lawful for Her Majesty by Proclamation to prohibit the exportation of all or any of the following articles—namely, arms, ammunition, military and naval stores, and any article which Her Majesty shall judge capable of being converted into, or made useful in increasing the quantity of, arms, ammunition, or military or naval stores—to any country or place therein named, whenever Her Majesty shall judge such prohibition to be expedient in order to prevent such arms, ammunition, military or naval stores, being used against Her Majesty’s subjects or forces, or against any forces engaged or which may be engaged in military or naval operations in co-operation with Her Majesty’s forces:
And whereas We, by and with the advice of our Privy Council, judge it expedient to prohibit the exportation to China of arms and ammunition, in order to prevent their being used as in the said Act stated:
Now We, by and with the advice aforesaid, do hereby prohibit the exportation to China of arms and ammunition from and after the date hereof.
Given at our Court, at Osborne House, Isle of Wight, this seventh day of August, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred, and in the sixty-fourth year of our reign.
