HOROWHENUA COUNTY COUNCIL.
Result of Poll on Proposed Loan.
RESULT of the poll of ratepayers in the Horowhenua Water-supply District, taken on Wednesday, the 2nd day of January, 1901, upon the proposal to borrow £4,000 from the Colonial Treasurer, under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and Amendment Act, 1899, for the purpose of constructing water-races in the Horowhenua Water-supply District, was as follows:—
Number of valid votes recorded in favour of the proposal, 132; number of valid votes recorded against the proposal, 3; informal, 1.
As the number of valid votes recorded in favour of the proposal is more than three-fifths of the total valid votes recorded at the poll, I therefore declare the proposal to be carried.

BOROUGH OF WHANGAREI.
RESULT of poll of ratepayers on the proposal to borrow £11,000 from the Government, under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” and “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and their amendments, for the purpose of constructing waterworks for the Borough of Whangarei. In accordance with the requirements of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” “The Local Government Voting Reform Act, 1899,” “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” and “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and their amendments, I do hereby give public notice that the number of ratepayers who voted—
In favour of the proposal was 100, representing 100 votes; against the proposal, 63, representing 63 votes. The number who did not vote was 248, representing 248 votes.
As the number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal is in excess of the votes recorded against it, I do hereby declare the proposal carried.

I, James McKinnon, of Whangarei, Town Clerk, solemnly and sincerely declare that all the proceedings required by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and their amendments, in the matter of obtaining the sanction of the ratepayers of the Borough of Whangarei to a proposal to borrow a loan from the Government have been duly taken with reference to loan of £11,000, for which a poll of ratepayers was taken on the 17th day of December, 1900; and I make this declaration, conscientiously believing the same to be true, by virtue of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

BOROUGH OF WESTPORT.
Town Hall, Westport, 24th December, 1900.
To the Hon. the Colonial Secretary, Wellington.
I, JAMES SCANLON, Mayor of the Borough of Westport, in the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby, pursuant to the provisions of section 184 of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” give you notice that, on the 20th day of December, 1900, a poll was taken, under the provisions of the said Act, on a proposal of the Council of the said borough to borrow by way of special loan, under the provisions of the said Act, the sum of £15,000, a copy of which proposal is next herein-after set out:—
Borough of Westport.—Proposed Special Loan for Waterworks.
Notice is hereby given that the Council of the Borough of Westport proposes to construct waterworks for the Borough of Westport, the supply to be obtained from Giles Creek, and for such purpose proposes to borrow the sum of fifteen thousand pounds (£15,000) by way of special loan under the provisions of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” for a period of forty-one (41) years, with interest, to be paid at the rate of three and one-half (3½) per cent. per annum. The Council proposes to pledge as security for such loan a special annual-recurring rate of sevenpence in the pound upon the rateable value of all rateable property within the Borough of Westport, and also the whole of the waterworks to be constructed, and the revenues to be derived therefrom.

And I also give you notice that the number of votes recorded upon the taking of the said poll, for and against the said proposal, were as follows: For the proposal, 276; against the proposal, 36: majority for the proposal, 240. And, it being provided by “The Local Government Voting Reform Act, 1899,” that the said proposal was to be deemed carried if the number of valid votes recorded in favour of the proposal exceeds the number of valid votes recorded against the proposal, I hereby further give you notice that the said proposal of the Council of the Borough of Westport was duly carried upon the taking of such poll.
