THE following Notices to Mariners, received from the United States Hydrographic Office, Washington, D.C., are published for general information.

CHINA.
CHUSAN ARCHIPELAGO.—GUTZLAFF ISLAND.—STORM SIGNALS ESTABLISHED.
On and after 20th September, 1900, the signals of the Zikawei Typhoon- and Storm-warning Service will be exhibited from the flagstaff on the summit of Gutzlaff Island.
Whenever the Gutzlaff Station is in possession of a typhoon- or storm-warning, a black ball will be hoisted at the flagstaff-head, and the signal, according to the Zikawei code, will be exhibited to all vessels while within a distance of five miles from the island.
The Zikawei code of signals in use can be obtained gratis at the semaphore station on the French Bund, Shanghai.

NORTH-EAST COAST.—WEIHAIWEI HARBOUR.—ALTERATION IN LIGHT ON FLAGSTAFF POINT.
The new illuminating apparatus which has been established at Flagstaff Point, Weihaiwei Harbour, is group intermittent of the 4th order, showing white and red sectors over the same arcs as the old light.
The light is eclipsed twice every 14 seconds, thus: Light, 2 seconds; eclipse, 2 seconds; light, 8 seconds; eclipse, 2 seconds.
The light is elevated 53 ft. above the sea, and in clear weather the white light should be visible 12 miles, the red light 8 miles.
The new lighthouse stands on the site of the old one.
The tower and dwellings are painted white.

Notice of the Laying-off of Road through Awarua 3b No. 2 Block, Hautapu Survey District.
NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, under the authority of section 92 of “The Public Works Act, 1894,” that the road described in the Schedule hereto was, in August, 1899, duly taken and laid off through the lands specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said colony, by warrant dated the 27th March, 1895.

Notice of the Laying-off of Road through Block III., Hautapu Survey District.
NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, under the authority of section 16 of “The Land Act, 1892,” that the road described in the Schedule hereto was, on the 30th January, 1900, duly taken and laid off through the land specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said colony, by warrant dated the 16th August, 1899.

NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, under the authority of section 92 of “The Public Works Act, 1894,” that the roads described in the Schedule hereto were, on the 3rd April, 1900, duly taken and laid off through the land specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said colony, by warrant dated the 26th June, 1899.

Bonus for the Production of Quicksilver.
Mines Office,
Wellington, 7th June, 1900.
NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of fourpence (4d.) per pound will be paid on the production of the first one hundred thousand pounds weight (100,000 lb.) of good marketable retorted quicksilver, free from all impurities, from any mine in New Zealand, on the following conditions, that is to say:—

That at least one-third of the quantity is produced on or before the 31st March, 1903, and the remaining two-thirds on or before the 31st March, 1904.

No bonus will be payable until the whole of the one hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.) of quicksilver has been produced as stipulated to the satisfaction of an officer to be appointed by the Minister of Mines, and on whose certificate alone the bonus will be paid.
