Rural Lands in the Taranaki Land District open for Sale or Selection.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the third day of February, one thousand nine hundred and two; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Chiefly table-land; altitude from 50 ft. to 700 ft. above sea-level; well watered; pastoral country; within one mile of river navigable by canoe; the formation is papa; about 350 acres felled and partly grassed, balance forest consisting principally of rata, rimu, &c. Weighted with £758, valuation for improvements—consisting of felling and grassing, £647 10s.; fencing, £24 10s.; yards and garden, £16; tracks cut, £60; hut, £10—which must be paid in the event of any person other than the former tenant being the successful applicant.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Distant from Strathmore about ten miles, via Taihore Road. Weighted with £24 15s., valuation for improvements consisting of about 8 acres in grass, 17 acres felled and burnt only, to be paid before applicant admitted to possession.

Rough pastoral country; wholly covered with forest, consisting of rata, rimu, &c., with the usual undergrowth; the formation is papa; well watered. Distant from Eltham about twenty-eight miles, portion being metalled, the balance formed partly as a dray-road and partly bridle-road. Altitude, from 1,500 ft. to 1,800 ft. above sea-level.

A small portion fairly level, balance hilly and broken land; soil fair to good; well watered. Access by Mokau Road and Tongaporutu River. About 60 acres have been cleared and grassed, remainder forest hills, the timber comprising rata, tawa, hinau, tawai, &c. Distant about one mile and a half from Tongaporutu Township. Weighted with £154 5s., valuation for improvements, which must be paid before the successful applicant is admitted to possession. The improvements comprise—dwelling, former tenant’s interest £40 6s., Crown’s interest £29 14s.; fencing, £38 1s.; drains, £13 14s.; outhouses, £6; roads and yards, £8; garden and clearing, £18 10s.

Weighted with £141 12s. 6d., valuation for improvements, which must be paid by successful applicant before being admitted to possession. The improvements consist of—dwelling, former tenant’s interest £60, Crown’s interest £10; outbuildings, £15; garden and orchard, £19 5s.; yards, £2; clearing, £7 10s.; fencing, £27 17s. 6d.
