Notice respecting Proposed Alteration in the Boundaries of
the Borough of Gisborne, Cook County.

Wellington, 22nd November, 1901.

PURSUANT to section 176 of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” His Excellency the Governor directs it to be notified that petitions in accordance with regulations, signed by not less than one-fourth of the electors of the respective areas described in the Schedule hereto, have been presented to him praying that the said areas may be included in the Borough of Gisborne.

All persons affected are hereby called upon to lodge any written objections to or petitions against the proposed alteration within one month from the first publication of this notice.

Such objections or petitions are to be addressed and forwarded to the Colonial Secretary, Wellington.

SCHEDULE.

DESCRIPTION OF AREA IN KAITI ROAD DISTRICT PROPOSED TO BE INCLUDED IN BOROUGH OF GISBORNE.

A LINE from a point on the sea-coast east from the breakwater, and about 33 chains therefrom, running in a north-easterly direction to Section No. 138 on the Wainui Road; from thence across the Wainui Road to the De Lautour Road; from thence along the De Lautour Road to the Graham Road; from thence by the Graham Road to the Waimata River; from thence by the river to the junction of the Waimata and Taruheru Rivers; from thence by the Turanganui River and the boundary of the Borough of Gisborne on the east side of the river to the breakwater at high-water mark; from thence by the sea at high-water mark to the starting-point.

DESCRIPTION OF AREA IN WHATAUPOKO ROAD DISTRICT PROPOSED TO BE INCLUDED IN BOROUGH OF GISBORNE.

Whataupoko No. 2, and part of Whataupoko No. 6, commencing on the north bank of the Taruheru River at intersection of Mangapapa and Whataupoko boundary-line; thence south-easterly along Taruheru and Waimata Rivers to creek running into Waimata River at Section No. 1, Whataupoko F; thence northerly, and bounded towards east by said creek to Fox Street; thence north-easterly along south-east side of Fox Street to north-east side of road forming north-east boundary of Sections 40 and 41, along said north-east side of said road to road between Sections 41 and 42; thence north-westerly along north-east boundary of Sections 42 and 43 to road, thence along north-east side of road to Section 5, Whataupoko E, thence along north-east boundary of Section 5 to Mangapapa boundary; and thence south-westerly along said Mangapapa boundary to commencing-point on Taruheru River.

PURSUANT to section 176 of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” His Excellency the Governor directs it to be notified that a petition in accordance with regulations, signed by not less than one-fourth of the electors of the area described in the Schedule hereto, has been presented to him praying that the said area may be included in the Borough of Invercargill, and added to the North Ward of the said borough.

All persons affected are hereby called upon to lodge any written objections to or petitions against the proposed alteration within one month from the first publication of this notice.

Such objections or petitions are to be addressed and forwarded to the Colonial Secretary, Wellington.

SCHEDULE.

PROPOSED EXTENSION OF BOUNDARIES OF BOROUGH OF INVERCARGILL.

ALL that area in the Land District of Southland, being part of original Section No. 27, Block I., Invercargill Hundred. Bounded towards the north by the Borough of Avenal, as described in the New Zealand Gazette No. 44, 16th May, 1878, from the Invercargill-Kingston Railway-line Reserve to Kelvin Road; thence towards the east and south by the Borough of Invercargill, as described in the New Zealand Gazette No. 20, 24th March, 1898, to the Invercargill-Kingston Railway-line Reserve; and thence towards the west by that reserve to the place of commencement.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Selwyn County.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Selwyn County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Counties Act, 1886.”

SELWYN COUNTY COUNCIL.

SIR,—
River Halswell Dredging Scheme.

In pursuance of section 199 of “The Counties Act, 1886,” I beg to notify to you that the resolution to execute the works mentioned in a proposal set out in a notice dated the 29th day of August, 1901, and signed by the Chairman and Clerk of the County of Selwyn, and published in the Press newspaper of the 31st August, the 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th September, and the 5th October, 1901, in pursuance of section 193 of the said Act, was duly submitted to the ratepayers in respect of the properties proposed to be rated as stated in the said proposal, at the library at Taitapu and the schoolhouse at Rabbit Island, within the area proposed to be rated, on the 1st day of November, 1901, and that the said resolution was duly carried.

The voting in respect of the said resolution was as follows:—
Number of ratepayers who voted at the poll, 120; number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal, 144; number of votes recorded against the proposal, 23.

In the matter of “The Counties Act, 1886,” “The River Boards Act, 1884,” “The Halswell River Drainage District Act, 1893,” and “The Local Government Voting Reform Act, 1899”; and in the matter of a proposal for the execution of certain works within the Halswell River Drainage District, as set out in a notice dated the 29th day of August, 1901, and signed by the Chairman and Clerk of the County of Selwyn, and published in the Press newspaper on the 31st August, 1901; and in the matter of “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

I, William Jameson, of Christchurch, Clerk to the Council of the County of Selwyn, do solemnly and sincerely declare,—

  1. That all proceedings required by the above-named Acts, or any of them, to be taken in or towards obtaining the sanction of the ratepayers to the above-mentioned proposal have been duly taken.

  2. That a poll of the ratepayers in respect of properties proposed to be rated, as stated in the said proposal, was duly taken at the library at Taitapu and the schoolhouse at Rabbit Island, within the area proposed to be rated, on the 1st day of November, 1901, and that the resolution in favour of the said proposal was duly carried. The voting on the said resolution was as follows, that is to say:—
    Number of ratepayers who voted at the poll, 120; number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal, 144; number of votes recorded against the proposal, 23.

And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of the provisions of “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”
