Rural Land in the Auckland Land District open for Sale or Selection.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural land described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the thirtieth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and one; and also that the land mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and-I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said land shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said land shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

SCHEDULE.

AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—MANUKAU COUNTY.
Unsurveyed Second-class Land.

All that area in the Auckland Land District, situate in the Parish of Otan, containing by admeasurement 4,000 acres, more or less. Bounded towards the north generally by Section No. 62 of the Parish of Otan, by the Mangatawhiri River, and by Sections Nos. 46 and 61 of the Parish of Otan; towards the east by the Mangatangi and Poupipi Blocks, by Section No. 47 of the Parish of Otan aforesaid, by the Mangatawhiri River, and again by Section No. 47 and the Poupipi Block aforesaid, and by the Wharekawa No. 2 Block; towards the south-east generally by Section No. 48A of the Parish of Otan aforesaid, by the Mangatawhiri River, and by Sections Nos. 45, 106, 65, and 142 of the before-mentioned parish; towards the west generally by a public road; and towards the north-west generally by Sections Nos. 13, 12, and 81A of the Parish of Otan aforesaid, and by a public road to the point of commencement.

Description of land: Forest and open land, mostly broken, well watered; situated in the Mangatawhiri Valley, about eight to thirteen miles from Pokeno.

Cash price, 7s. 6d. per acre; occupation with right of purchase, 4·5d. per acre per annum; lease in perpetuity, 3·6d. per acre per annum.

All that area in the Auckland Land District, situate in the Parish of Otan, containing by admeasurement 600 acres, more or less. Bounded towards the east generally by the Wharekawa No. 2 Block; towards the south by part of the southern boundary of the Parish of Otan; towards the west generally by Sections Nos. 52, 51, and 73 of the said parish; and towards the north-west by a public road to the point of commencement.

Description of land: About half open, half mixed-forest land, broken; situated from ten to twelve miles from Pokeno, adjoining the Surrey Redoubt.

Cash price, 7s. 6d. per acre; occupation with right of purchase, 4·5d. per acre per annum; lease in perpetuity, 3·6d. per acre per annum.

The above sections are hilly forest land, covered with tawa, rimu, kahikatea, matai, totara, rewarewa, hinau, miro, mahoe, black-birch, &c.; well watered, and soil good; altitude, from 800 ft. to 2,000 ft. Distance from Wairoa by road, thirty to thirty-eight miles.

About 30 acres of Section 3, 150 acres of Section 4, 350 acres of Section 5, 120 acres of Section 6, and 70 acres of Section 7 are covered with fern and tutu, the balance being forest, consisting of tawa, rimu, kahikatea, matai, totara, rata, rewarewa, manuka, mahoe, and hinau. These sections have good soil, and are well watered; hilly country; from 800 ft. to 2,000 ft. altitude. Distance from Wairoa by road, twenty-eight to thirty-four miles.
