Alterations to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.

IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under “The Government Railways Act, 1900,” I, Joseph George Ward, the Minister for Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand Government Railways open for traffic, such alterations to come into force on and after the 19th day of November, 1900:—

PART I.—PASSENGERS: LOCAL FARES AND REGULATIONS.

HURUNUI—BLUFF SECTION.

Insert—

Cold Lakes and the Glacial District of Otago.

Return excursion tickets, available for three months from date of issue, will be issued between 1st November and 31st March, as under:—

To Kingston, Lake Wakatipu (including saloon steamer passage, Kingston to Queenstown and back):—

From First Class. Second Class.
Christchurch (round trip via Waimea line and Invercargill) £ s. d. 5 7 6 £ s. d. 3 15 0
Dunedin (via Waimea line only) .. 2 5 0 1 13 6
Dunedin (round trip via Waimea line and Invercargill) 2 12 6 2 0 0

To Pembroke, Lake Wanaka, (including saloon steamer passage, Kingston to Queenstown and back, and coach, Queenstown to Pembroke and back):—

From Dunedin (via Waimea line only), 67s. 6d. (first class).

The journey may be broken at any station at which the train is timed to stop after travelling twenty-five miles from the original starting-station, provided the specified time for which the tickets are available is not exceeded.

Cancel—

Excursions to Taieri Beach via Henley.

Return excursion tickets from Dunedin to Taieri Beach via Henley will be issued to parties of not less than twenty adults, on any week-day (Saturdays and general holidays excepted) between 1st November and 31st March:—

Fare: First class (rail and steamer), 5s.

Return excursion tickets from Dunedin to Taieri Beach will be issued on Saturdays, between 1st November and 31st March:—

Fare: First class (rail and steamer), 6s.

Taieri Beach tickets are available for day of issue only.

PART IV.—GOODS: LOCAL RATES.

KAWAKAWA SECTION.

Cancel—

Class H will be charged 10s. per ton.

Insert—

Class H, undumped, in bales not exceeding 4 cwt., will be charged 2s. per bale.

Notice to Mariners No. 53 of 1900.

REFERRING to Notice to Mariners No. 27 of 1900, issued by this department on the 1st June last, the following notice, received from the Marine Board, Port Adelaide, South Australia, is published for general information.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA.—NO. 8 OF 1900.

St. Vincent Gulf.—Approach to Port Adelaide.

REFERRING to Notice to Mariners No. 2 of 1900, masters of vessels and others are hereby informed that the erection of the new lighthouse on Wonga Shoal, Port Adelaide, will be commenced at an early date, and that during the continuance of the work a temporary riding light will be exhibited between sunset and sunrise from the works in progress on that shoal. It is expected that the new lighthouse will be completed about May, 1901.

For a period of about one month before the new light is exhibited from Wonga Shoal, the existing Port Adelaide illuminating apparatus will be removed from its present position at the entrance to the river. During its transfer to the Wonga Shoal Tower, a light of the third order, revolving every thirty seconds (as at present), visible for about fifteen (15) miles, will be exhibited from a temporary tower erected on the position now occupied by the Port Adelaide Lighthouse.

Further notices as to the precise dates of exhibition of the riding light at Wonga Shoal, the removal of the existing Port Adelaide light, the exhibition of the temporary light in lieu thereof, and the first exhibition of the permanent light on Wonga Shoal will be given in due course.

NOTE.—This affects Admiralty Plans Nos. 1750 and 1752.
