Altering Time of Meetings of Taranaki Land Board.

IT is hereby notified for public information that His Excellency the Governor has, in pursuance of subsection (1) of section 48 of “The Land Act, 1892,” approved of the meetings of the Taranaki Land Board being held on the third Monday in each month, instead of the first and third Mondays as at present.

SIR,—With reference to my circular despatch of the 4th August, 1899, relative to the extension by Germany of most-favoured-nation treatment to the United Kingdom and the colonies, I have the honour to transmit to you, for the information of your Government, a translation of a further law on the subject passed in Germany on the 30th June last (law dated 30th June, 1900), together with a telegram from Lord Gough (26th July, 1900, Commercial No. 4) stating that a notice, based on that law, but excluding Canada and Barbados, has been issued by the German Chancellor.

Enclosure 1.

LAW RESPECTING THE COMMERCIAL RELATIONS WITH THE BRITISH EMPIRE, OF JUNE 30TH, 1900.

(Translation.)

WE, William, by the grace of God German Emperor, King of Prussia, decree in the name of the Empire, with the assent of the Federal Council and the Imperial Diet, for the period after July 30th, 1900, what follows:—

The Federal Council is empowered to grant to the subjects and products of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, as also to the subjects and products of British colonies and foreign possessions, until July 30th, 1901, the same advantages as are accorded by the Empire to the subjects and products of the most-favoured nation.

Given under our Imperial Hand and Seal.

TELEGRAM FROM LORD GOUGH, BERLIN, DATED JULY 26TH, 1900, No. 4 COMMERCIAL.

Notice issued last night by Chancellor, granting most-favoured-nation treatment to subjects and products of United Kingdom and to British colonies and foreign possessions with exception of Canada and Barbados beyond July 30th, and until further notice.

Notification of Vacancy of Seat in the House of Representatives for the Northern Maori Electoral District.

IN compliance with the provisions of the one-hundred-and-thirty-fifth section of “The Electoral Act, 1893,” I hereby notify that the seat of Mr. Hone Heke in the House of Representatives for the Northern Maori Electoral District did, under the provisions of subsection (4) of section 130 of the said Act, become vacant on the 29th day of October, 1900, by reason of his having been adjudged a bankrupt.

Dated at Auckland, the 13th day of November, 1900.

NOTE.—Showery weather generally during month; the maximum fall recorded on 13th—1·15 in.; prevailing N.W. wind, and frequently stormy and unpleasant; very unsettled weather. The maximum temperature in shade was 66·5°, and the minimum 39°; the mean temperature of dew-point, 45°; and the mean humidity, 71. Thunder on 22nd; fog on 24th. Earthquake on 16th, at 10·50 p.m., very slight, E. and W.; and on 21st, at 9·32 p.m., very slight.
