Time for taking Census.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by “The Census Act, 1877,” it is, among other things, provided that an account shall be taken in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty-one of the number and condition of persons within New Zealand, and of other particulars relating thereto; and that after the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty-one such account shall be taken in every fifth year succeeding: And whereas by the said Act, as amended by “The Census Act Amendment Act, 1890,” it is enacted that such account may be taken on any day or days, not being later than the thirtieth day of April, as the Governor shall, by Proclamation published in the Gazette, appoint:
Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the authority in me vested by the said Acts, do hereby proclaim and declare that such account shall be taken in the month of April, one thousand nine hundred and one, on Monday, the first day of the said month, and for the night of Sunday, the thirty-first day of the month of March preceding.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly; Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this twelfth day of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred.

“The Education Act, 1877.”—Class-books for Public Schools.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this sixth day of November, 1900.

THE HONOURABLE W. HALL-JONES PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.
IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in him by “The Education Act, 1877,” the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the colony, doth make the regulation hereto annexed respecting class-books for public schools; and, with the like advice and consent, doth prescribe that this Order shall come into force on the date of the first publication thereof in the New Zealand Gazette.
REGULATION.
The regulation made by Order in Council on the 4th September, 1899, prescribing class-books for public schools, is hereby amended by the excision of the words in parenthesis “(Standards I.—VI.)” after the words “Whitcombe and Tombs’ Imperial Readers.”

Rule under “The Supreme Court Act, 1882.”

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this sixth day of November, 1900.

THE HONOURABLE W. HALL-JONES PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.
IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred by the thirty-first section of “The Supreme Court Act, 1882,” His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council thereof, and with the concurrence of their Honours the Judges of the Supreme Court of the said colony, doth hereby make the following rule, and doth declare that such rule shall take effect on and after the first day of December, one thousand nine hundred:—
In every case where the Court can relieve against the forfeiture of any lease or of any right to purchase on grounds not stated in section twenty-five of “The Supreme Court Act, 1882,” the Court may on motion as well as in any action grant relief.

Vesting a Reserve in the Corporation of the Town of Queenstown.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this sixth day of November, 1900.

THE HONOURABLE W. HALL-JONES PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS the land described in the Schedule hereto was permanently reserved for a water reserve for the Borough of Queenstown on the thirteenth day of September, one thousand nine hundred:
And whereas, in the opinion of the Governor, it is expedient to vest the said land in the Corporation of the Town of Queenstown:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, and in exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by the fourth section of “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” doth hereby declare that, from and after the day of the date hereof, the reserves described in the Schedule hereto shall become vested in “The Mayor, Councillors, and Burgesses of the Borough of Queenstown,” in trust, for a water reserve.
SCHEDULE.
All that parcel of land in the Otago Land District, containing by admeasurement 136 acres 2 roods, more or less, being Sections No. 3, Block VIII., Mid-Wakatipu, and 72, Block XX., Shotover Survey Districts. Bounded towards the north by Crown lands, 163, 3242, and 8238 links; towards the east by Crown lands, 478 links; towards the south-west by Crown lands, 2547, 2980, 1552, 588, and 843 links; and towards the west by Crown lands, 2569 and 2136 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less; as the same is delineated on the plan deposited in the office of the Chief Surveyor, Dunedin.

Exchange of a Reserve in Canterbury for other Land.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this sixth day of November, 1900.

WHEREAS the land mentioned in the first column of the Schedule hereto was permanently set apart as a gravel-pit: And whereas, in the opinion of the Governor, it is expedient to exchange the said land for that described in the second column of the Schedule hereto:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, and in exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by the fourth section of “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” and the third section of “The Public Reserves Act Amendment Act, 1889,” doth hereby declare that the said reserve described in the first column of the Schedule hereto may be exchanged for the land described in the second column of the Schedule hereto.
