resting on papa formation. The forest is of a mixed character, comprising rimu, rata, tawhero, and birch on ridges, with an undergrowth of supplejack, mahoe, rangiora, &c. The section is watered by a small creek at present. The elevation ranges from about 1,800 ft. to 2,500 ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise felling and grassing, 70 acres, at £1 5s. per acre, £87 10s.; fencing, 20 chains, at 14s. per chain, £14: total, £101 10s.
Section 14, Block VIII., Makotuku District, is situated in the Clifton No. 1 Block, about three miles from Ohakune Township, the access from which is by formed dray-road for part of the distance and by formed bridle-track for the remainder. The section comprises hilly land, with about 20 acres of flat. The soil is of fair quality, resting on sandstone formation. The forest is mixed, comprising rimu, matai, miro, tawa, rata, tawhero, &c., with usual undergrowth. The section is well watered by small streams. The improvements comprise felling (partly burned and in grass), £10.

Rural Lands in the Auckland Land District open for Sale or Selection.
RANFURLY, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the fourteenth day of November, one thousand nine hundred; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Section 1, Block VIII.: Altitude, 1,500 ft. Heavy mixed-forest land, and broken; pastoral, rich soil. Situated eighteen miles from Te Rauamoā Settlement and eight miles from Waiharakeke River.
Section 2, Block XI.: Broken forest land, and well watered; mostly of fair quality, except the tops of ridges. Situated twenty miles from Hangatiki Railway-station by surveyed road. Altitude, from 800 ft. to 1,200 ft.
