Rural Lands in the Wellington Land District open for Sale or Selection.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the seventh day of November, one thousand nine hundred; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Section 21, Block VI., Makotuku District, is situated in the Wanganui United West Block, about one mile and a half from Raetihi Township, the access from which is by the Hukaroa Road, which is cleared and formed as a bridle-track past the section. The section comprises nearly all broken land, with sufficient flat land for a homestead-site. The soil is of fair quality, resting on papa formation. The forest is heavy, comprising rimu, matai, tawa, miro, maire, &c., with usual undergrowth. The section is fairly well watered.

Section 5, Block X., Makotuku District, is situated in the Wanganui United West Block, about two miles and a quarter from Raetihi Township, the access from which is by the Hukaroa Road, which is formed as a bridle-track. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa formation. The forest is mixed, comprising rimu, miro, matai, tawa, rata, &c., with usual undergrowth. The section is well watered by small streams.

Section 12, Block II., Makotuku District, is situated in the Waimarino Small-farm Block, about three miles from Raetihi Township, the access from which is by metalled dray-road for part of the distance and by formed road for the remainder. The section comprises nearly all flat land. The soil is of good quality, swampy in places, resting on grit-and-sandstone formation. The forest is mixed, comprising rimu, matai, miro, maire, &c., with usual undergrowth. The section is watered by the Makara Stream. The improvements comprise felling (not sown in grass), £12 10s.

Section 14, Block II., Makotuku District, is situated in the Waimarino Small-farm Block, about two miles and a half from Raetihi Township, the access from which is by metalled road for the greater part of that distance and by formed road for the remainder. The section comprises easy rolling hills, with about 100 acres of flat at front. The soil is of fair quality, resting on papa-and-sandstone formation. The forest is heavy, comprising rimu, matai, miro, tawa, and kahikatea, with usual undergrowth of karamu, rangiora, supplejack, &c. The section is watered by Makara Stream.

Section 5, Block II., Makotuku District, is situated in the Waimarino Small-farm Block, about four miles and a quarter from Raetihi Township, the access from which is by metalled dray-road for part of the distance, the remainder being by formed road. The section comprises nearly all flat land. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa-and-sandstone formation. The forest is mixed, comprising rimu, miro, matai, tawa, &c., with usual undergrowth. The section is well watered by constantly running streams. The improvements comprise felling (not sown in grass), £10.

Section 10, Block II., Makotuku District, is situated in the Waimarino Small-farm Block, about three miles from Raetihi Township, the access from which is by metalled road for part of the distance and by formed road for the remainder. The section comprises hilly land, about 40 acres being flat. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa formation. The forest is mixed, comprising rimu, matai, maire, &c., with usual undergrowth. The section is well watered.

Section 15, Block XV., Manganui District, is situated in block adjacent to Waimarino Small-farm Block, about eight miles from Raetihi, the access from which is by metalled road for part of the distance and by formed road and bridle-track for the remainder. The section comprises flat and undulating land. The soil is of light character, resting on sandstone formation. The forest is mixed, comprising rimu, matai, maire, &c., with usual undergrowth. The section is fairly well watered.

Section 20, Block XV., Manganui District, is situated in the Marton No. 3 Block, about eight miles from Raetihi Township, the access from which is by metalled road and formed road for part of the distance, and by formed bridle-track and surveyed road for the remainder. The section comprises mostly flat land. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa formation. The forest is of a mixed character, with usual undergrowth. The section is well watered.

Section 18, Block XI., Makuri District, is situated in the Masterton Reform Block, on the North Range Road; the access is from Makuri, which is about seventeen miles distant, nine miles being dray-road and eight miles bridle-track. The section comprises easy spurs on road-frontage, rising steeply to 2,500 ft. on back line. The soil is of medium quality,
