HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve, under clause 50, “The Defence Act, 1886,” of the dismissal from the New Zealand Volunteer Force of
No. 241, Private Angus Fraser, Kaiapoi Rifle Volunteers (attached to the East Taieri Rifle Volunteers),
for misconduct in being insolent towards his superior officer while in the execution of his duty as such officer on the 24th May, 1900.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Lawrence, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”
BOROUGH OF LAWRENCE.
Borough Council Chambers,
14th July, 1900.
SIR,—I, Benjamin Warren Winn, Mayor of the Borough of Lawrence, in the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby, pursuant to section 39 of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” give you notice that on the 12th day of July, 1900, a poll of the burgesses of the Borough of Lawrence was taken, under the provisions of the said Act, and also under the provisions of “The Local Government Voting Reform Act, 1899,” on a proposal of the Council of the said borough to borrow the sum of £5,000 sterling, a copy of which proposal is next hereinafter set out.

Borough of Lawrence.
I hereby give notice that at the poll taken on the 12th day of July, 1900, on the proposal of the Borough Council of Lawrence to raise by way of loan the sum of £5,000 sterling for the purpose of lighting the streets and public places of the Borough of Lawrence with electricity, and of supplying electricity for lighting purposes and for motive-power to the inhabitants of the said borough, and for acquiring land, erecting buildings, providing machinery and plant, and generally doing all works and things necessary for effecting such lighting, and for the supply of electricity for lighting and motive-power to the inhabitants of the said borough, to pledge as security for the loan, in addition to such parts of the Borough Fund as may be lawfully charged, all works constructed for effecting the electric lighting as aforesaid, and the rents and profits derived from the supply of electricity for lighting purposes and motive-power aforesaid, there voted:—
For the proposal, 99; against the proposal, 27: majority for proposal, 72.
I therefore declare that the proposal is carried.

LYTTELTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Lyttelton, 9th July, 1900.
SIR,—I have the honour, pursuant to section 184 of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” to give you notice that on the 4th day of July, 1900, at Lyttelton, the proposal of the Lyttelton Borough Council to raise by way of loan the sum of £10,000 for the purposes following—namely, (a) to purchase land for the purpose of water-supply extension, and pipes for such extension; (b) erection of fire-brigade station and town hall; and (c) drainage-works—was duly carried by the votes of the ratepayers.

I, William Radcliffe, Mayor of the Borough of Lyttelton, do solemnly and sincerely declare,—

That the proposal of the Lyttelton Borough Council to raise £10,000 by way of loan for the above-mentioned purposes under the provisions of “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and its amendments, was submitted to a poll of the ratepayers taken at Lyttelton on the 4th day of July, 1900.

That all the proceedings required to be taken by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” in or towards obtaining the sanction of the burgesses of the said Borough of Lyttelton to the said proposal have been duly and properly taken and observed.

That the resolution in favour of the said proposal has been duly carried.
And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”
