WAIPAWA COUNTY.
THE following is the result of the poll taken on the 23rd of June, 1900, at the schoolhouse, Whetukura, on a proposal to borrow £900 for the construction of the Ohiweka Road, Waikopiro:—
Number of ratepayers on special roll, 9, representing 9 votes: Number of ratepayers who voted for the proposal, 8; against the proposal, nil; number of votes recorded for the proposal, 8; against, nil.
As a majority in number of the ratepayers voted in favour of the proposal, and the number so voting are entitled to more than one-half of the votes that can be exercised by the whole number of ratepayers, I hereby declare the said proposal to be carried.

Form of Declaration.
I, William Nicholson, of Waipawa, County Clerk, do solemnly and sincerely declare that all proceedings required by the provisions of “The Counties Act, 1886,” to be taken in or towards obtaining the sanction of the ratepayers to the proposal to borrow the sum of £900 for the construction of the Ohiweka Road have been duly taken, and that the resolution in favour of the proposal has been duly carried; and I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “the Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

My Lord,—I have the honour to inform you that Her Majesty will not be advised to exercise her powers of disallowance with respect to the Act No. 15 of 1899 of the Legislature of New Zealand, entitled “An Act to amend “The Shipping and Seamen’s Act, 1877,” a transcript of which accompanied your despatch No. 78, of the 14th of December last.

“The Dairy Industry Act, 1898.”—Government Advances to Dairy Companies.—Investment of Reserve Fund.—Notice No. 594.

Wellington, 17th July, 1900.
WHEREAS by section forty-four of “The Dairy Industry Act, 1898,” it is provided that, with respect to any company to which a loan has been granted under the said Act, the said company shall pay annually into a special reserve fund not less than five pounds per centum of its profits for the year; and by the said Act it is further provided that such reserve fund shall be invested in such securities as the Minister for Agriculture prescribes: And whereas it is expedient to make provision for the investment of the said moneys in manner hereinafter set forth: Now, therefore, I, Thomas Young Duncan, the Minister for Agriculture, do hereby order and prescribe as follows, viz.:—

All moneys set aside by any company to form a reserve fund within the terms of section 44 of “The Dairy Industry Act, 1898,” shall be paid over annually to the Public Trustee, and shall be by him invested from time to time in such investments or securities as such Trustee is authorised to invest the moneys standing to credit of the Public Trust Office Account. Such moneys shall be kept by the Public Trustee in an account to be called “The Dairy Industry Reserve Fund Account.”

Separate accounts shall be kept in respect of each mortgage.

Upon receiving from the Colonial Treasurer a certificate that any company has duly paid all moneys payable under its mortgage the Public Trustee shall pay over to such company the moneys standing to its credit in the Dairy Industry Reserve Fund Account; and the receipt of such company, or its manager, secretary, or other principal officer, shall be a sufficient discharge to the Public Trustee for such payment.

ELIZABETH STREET PIER.—Two white lights on one column; lights about 3 ft. apart.
DUNN STREET PIER.—Two green lights on one column; lights about 3 ft. apart.

Notice to Mariners No. 36 of 1900.
EXHIBITION OF LIGHT ON EAST ISLAND, NEAR EAST CAPE, NORTH ISLAND, N.Z.

Wellington, N.Z., 14th July, 1900.
WITH reference to preliminary notices No. 32 of 1898 and No. 41 of 1899, issued by this department, it is hereby notified that on and after Thursday, the 9th August, 1900, a light will be exhibited from sunset to sunrise from the lighthouse which has been erected on East Island, near East Cape, on the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand. The position and characteristics are as follows:—
The site of the light is in latitude 37° 4′ south, and longitude 178° 36′ east, as measured from the Admiralty chart.
The tower is constructed of cast iron. The total height from the bottom of the base to the top of the lantern is 69 ft., and it is painted white.
The light will be 362 ft. above the level of the sea at high water. It is a dioptric revolving white light of the second order, showing a white flash at intervals of ten seconds. It will be visible seaward over an arc of 280 degrees of the horizon, or as far round as the land will allow, and in ordinary clear weather it will be seen twenty-two nautical miles from the deck of a vessel 15 ft. above sea-level.
