Notice under “The Stock Act, 1893.”—No. 582.
NOTICE TO OWNERS OF SWINE.
Department of Agriculture,
Wellington, 17th January, 1900.
SWINE-FEVER having been discovered at several places widely apart, owners of pigs are particularly requested to immediately notify the Inspector of Stock for the district of any illness or mortality occurring in their herds. Pigs showing the slightest sign of illness, or which may have been in contact with such pigs, should not be removed until the Inspector has investigated the matter.
The importance of stamping out so virulent a disease cannot be overestimated, more especially in view of the fact that the dairying industry largely depends on the success of bacon-curing. The co-operation of owners is therefore urgently solicited.
JOHN D. RITCHIE,
Chief Inspector of Stock.
SECTIONS 25 AND 27 OF “THE STOCK ACT, 1893.”
- Every owner of diseased stock, or stock suspected to be diseased, shall, within twenty-four hours from the time when he shall have discovered or suspected such stock to be diseased, give notice thereof to the Inspector of the subdivision in which such stock are running, and shall keep the diseased stock from coming into contact with any other stock. Every person offending against or violating the provisions of this section shall, on conviction, be liable to a penalty of not less than £5 and not exceeding £50 for each and every day that he shall neglect or omit to perform the duty hereby imposed upon him.
