Land Act, 1896,” His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby appoint the person named in the third column of the Schedule hereto to be the Judge of the Assessment Court for the district named in the first column of the said Schedule, sitting at the place named in the second column of the said Schedule.

Excepting Land from Operation of Section 117 of “The Native Land Court Act, 1894.”

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this seventeenth day of May, 1900.

Present:
THE HONOURABLE J. G. WARD PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by section four of “The Native Land Laws Amendment Act, 1895,” it is enacted that the Governor may, by Order in Council, except from the operation of section one hundred and seventeen of “The Native Land Court Act, 1894” (hereinafter called “the said Act”), for a limited period or otherwise, and either generally or for such purposes and subject to such restrictions as shall be in such Order specified, any land, wheresoever situate, which is for the time being subject to the operation of the said section, or any interest therein or right over the same, or may in like manner make such exception in favour exclusively of any lessee or other person who has been bonâ fide in occupation of and has made improvements on such land, or has paid money to Native owners for lease or purchase thereof, prior to the passing of the said Act: Provided that no Order in Council under the provisions of this section shall take effect until after the expiration of two months from the date of the publication thereof in the Gazette: Provided also that every alienation under the provisions of this section shall be confirmed by the Court in terms of section fifty-three of the said Act:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred by section four of “The Native Land Laws Amendment Act, 1895,” and by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby except from the operation of section one hundred and seventeen of “The Native Land Court Act, 1894,” for the purpose of alienation by way of sale, all that block or parcel of land, situate in the Provincial District of Wellington, containing six hundred and sixty acres, more or less, known as Pukehou 5a No. 1 South, and being the land comprised in Land Transfer certificate of title, Volume Seventy-seven, folio thirty-eight.

Extension of Time for Preparation of County Rolls, County of Grey.

RANFURLY, Governor.
ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this seventeenth day of May, 1900.

Present:
THE HONOURABLE J. G. WARD PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS it has been made to appear that, owing to unavoidable circumstances, the preparation of the rolls for the County of Grey, and the taking of certain steps consequent on such preparation, cannot be made and taken within the times limited by “The Counties Act, 1886,” and it is expedient to extend the said times respectively:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers conferred upon him by the said Act, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby order and declare that the several dates mentioned in the Schedule hereto shall be the respective dates for taking the several steps set out in the said Schedule.

SCHEDULE.

  1. For preparing the rolls for ridings within the County of Grey: Until the 15th May, 1900.
  2. Time for which such rolls shall be open for inspection: From the 20th May, 1900, to the 12th June, 1900.
  3. Time for appeals against the said rolls: Until the 27th June, 1900.
  4. Revision Courts may sit for hearing applications with reference to the said rolls, and adjourn: Until the 14th July, 1900.
  5. Time when the said rolls, having been duly corrected and signed, shall come into force: On the 1st August, 1900.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this seventeenth day of May, 1900.

WHEREAS by Order in Council dated the sixteenth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine, made under the authority of “The Post Office Act, 1881” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), postage-due stamps were authorised to be created and issued, and regulations for such creation and issue were made and published: And whereas it is expedient to alter and amend such regulations in the manner hereinafter set forth:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon him by the said Act, and of all other powers and authorities in that behalf enabling him, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby revoke the regulation contained in the section numbered two of the Schedule to the aforementioned Order in Council, and in lieu thereof doth hereby make the regulation set forth in the Schedule hereto, and doth prescribe that such last-mentioned regulation shall be read as part of the regulations made under the authority of the said Order in Council as aforesaid, and doth further prescribe that such regulation shall have effect on and after the date of the gazetting of this Order in Council.

  1. POSTAGE-DUE stamps may not be received by any Postmaster or any officer of the department in payment of postage.

Notifying Lands in Wellington for Sale by Public Auction.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirteenth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby appoint Thursday, the nineteenth day of July, one thousand nine hundred, as the time at which the lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be sold by public auction; and I do hereby fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold as those mentioned in the said Schedule hereto.

Section 25, Hastwell Village: This section is situated on a side road about two chains east of the main coach-road, in the Hastwell Village Settlement. The access is from the Mangamahoe Railway-station, which is about two miles distant, and is about twenty-two miles from Masterton by the main coach-road. The soil is of fair quality, resting on papa formation. The section is not watered. The elevation ranges from 700 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level.

Section 14, Mangamahoe Village: This section fronts the Mahoe Road, in the above village, which has a station on
