General Description.
The block comprises first-class pastoral country, well adapted for sheep-grazing, whilst a considerable area is suitable for agriculture. The timber on the sections is mostly kohekohe (cedar), tawa, and a fair proportion of puriri—sufficient for fencing purposes. The scrub is manuka and tauhinau. The altitude varies from 80 ft. to 950 ft. above sea-level, only the first section, however, being over 750 ft. The land is of good quality generally, and fairly well watered, and is accessible from Gisborne (distant fourteen to eighteen miles) by the coast-road, along which drays can be taken. The nearest post-and-telegraph station is Pakarae, on the coast, distant about three miles.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this thirteenth day of January, one thousand nine hundred.

These allotments are situated about four miles east of the Gladstone-East Coast Road, from which there is a rough bridle-track partly formed. The access is from Carterton Railway-station, which is about twenty-nine miles distant—from Carterton to Gladstone by eight miles of coach-road, from Gladstone to Peterkin’s by seventeen miles of dray-road, and thence to the sections by the Rocky Hill Road, two miles of which is a rough stock-track, and the remaining two miles an unformed surveyed road. The allotments comprise hilly land with rounded ridges and broken faces, covered with heavy mixed bush except where felled and grassed. The quality of the soil is from poor to good, resting on volcanic (rotten rock) formation. The forest is of a mixed nature, comprising rimu, totara, matai, tawa, &c., with a thick undergrowth of supplejacks, ferns, karamu, &c. Both allotments are well watered by permanent streams. The elevation ranges from 1,000 ft. to 2,000 ft. above sea-level. The general quality of the sections is fairly good for pastoral purposes. The improvements on Section 286A and Part 1 of 287 comprise 30 acres felled, of which 20 acres have been grassed, and are valued at £50. The improvements on Parts 1 and 2 of Section 286 comprise 600 acres felled and grassed, 72 chains of fencing, hut 12 ft. by 18 ft., and sheep-yards: total value, £1,141 6s.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this thirteenth day of January, one thousand nine hundred.
