Rural Land in the Taranaki Land District open for Sale or Selection.
RANFURLY, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the eleventh day of April, one thousand nine hundred; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

All undulating forest country, consisting of spurs rising from the Poarangi Stream, the ridges being from 300 ft. to 800 ft. above the valleys. The formation is papa, and well watered. The forest is inclined to be heavy, consisting of rata, rimu, kahikatea, pukatea, tawa, hinau, and the usual undergrowth. In Section 5 the spurs rise to 900 ft., and are more or less broken. There are patches of black-birch in the back portions of the block. The distance from Stratford is about forty-four miles, forty-two of which, via Ohura Road, will be by a dray-road, partly metalled; the remaining two miles by the Whangamomona Road, partly opened for horse traffic.

About 200 acres bush on the land, the remainder being open scrub, fern, or grass country, which will carry about 400 sheep in its present state. It has frontage on to the Waiomoko Road.
About 400 acres bush, the balance being open fern, scrub, and grass land, which will now carry about 100 sheep. It fronts the Pateika Road, which is not yet formed, and is two miles from the Whangara formed road.
About 450 acres good bush, the balance open scrub, fern, and grass country. Frontage on the Tangamatai cleared road. This section has a number of good puriri-trees on it.
About 200 acres first-class bush, containing some good puriri timber, the remainder being open fern, scrub, and grass country, which will carry 400 sheep at present. It fronts the Pateika Road (not yet cleared) about a mile, and the Tangamatai Road.
Open fern and scrub country, with some small patches of bush. There are some low downs of poor soil, while the valleys contain flats with soil of good quality. At present 500 sheep can be carried on the section. Frontage on the Pateika and Tangamatai Roads.
About 150 acres of bush, the balance open fern, scrub, and grass, at present able to carry 200 sheep. Frontage on the Tangamatai Road.
All scrub, fern, and grass. Nearly half of this section comprises flats of very good soil, and almost all of it can be ploughed. At present about 600 sheep can be carried. Frontage on the Tangamatai Road.
