Section 14, Block VII., Makuri, is situated in the Coonoor Block, on the Upper Makuri Road, distant about eight miles from Makuri Township and two miles from Coonoor School, post-office, &c. The access is from Pahiatua, via Makuri, which is about twenty-eight miles distant by metalled road. The section comprises undulating country, with homestead-site on the road-frontage. The soil is of a mixed character, part clay and part loam, resting on limestone formation. The forest is heavy throughout, comprising rata, rimu, birch, with pukahu more or less on the ridges, and dense undergrowth of rangiora, supplejack, tawa, lawyer, &c. The land is watered by the Makuri Stream. The elevation ranges from about 1,400 ft. to 1,700 ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise 11 acres felled but not burned, and now overgrown, and also 2½ acres in grass, valued at £16 12s. 6d.
Section 24A, Block VIII., Tiriraukawa, is situated on the Mangaweka–Te Kanua Road, on the Mangaone Stream, and adjoining the Palmerston North Knights of Labour Block. The access is from Mangaweka, which is about nine miles distant by the Mangaweka–Te Kapua Road, which is formed as a horse-road; also from Mangaonoho Railway-station. The section comprises hilly bush land. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa formation. The forest is fairly heavy, comprising kahikatea, matai, miro, rimu, totara, hinau, maire, tawa, &c., with a thick undergrowth of karamu, konini, mahoe, rangiora. The section is well watered by the Mangaone Stream.
Section 7, Block II., Tararua, is situated in the Waiwera Block, on the Mangahao South Road. The access is from the Hukanui Railway-station, which is about four miles distant, two miles and a half of which distance is partly metalled, the remainder being horse-track. The last half-mile is partly blocked with landslips and trees. The present access is by bed and bank of Mangahao River. The section comprises about 12 or 15 acres of flat land, with good homestead-site on the road-frontage; the remainder is hilly, rising steeply towards the back. The soil is clay resting on papa formation. The forest is heavy, comprising rimu, rata, tawa, birch, and tawhero, with a thick undergrowth of supplejack, konini, vines, &c. The land is watered by a small creek. The elevation ranges from about 500 ft. to 900 ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise 10 acres felled and grassed at 40s. = £20.

Rural Lands in the Southland Land District open for Sale or Selection.
RANFURLY, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the third day of April, one thousand nine hundred; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”
